We had an amazing night last night. Picked up kids from dance (WSPA-3) and tech crew (Jared) got them fed and back to their Mom's.

Then Susan showed up for rehearsal. We quickly agreed that it may not have been the best idea, rehearsal on election night. Yeah, 3 political junkies in one band. We would play a song, the all check phones and laptops to see what had changed, then play a song and repeat.

We got a lot done last night, came up with some nifty harmonies for Haunted and nifty fiddle parts as well. It's going to be gorgeous. The funny part is that Susan may need to bring another instrument with her for a different tuning. Yeah, I know, crazy talk. Bringing more than one instrument for different tunings. I'll talk her out of it. I mean really.

Rehearsal finished and she headed home. Lizzie and I settled in to watch the returns.

I have married the perfect woman, I really have. So many things mesh, politics being a big one. We ranted, raved, laughed, gnashed teeth together all evening. And when, at 10:13, Ohio was called for the President we rejoiced. Phone calls were made to Lizzie's Father and Sister then we settled in to watch the speeches. We didn't make it to the President's speech but we watched Romney concede and then went to bed.

The first thing we did when we got up in the morning was get downstairs and see more of the results. And I fast forwarded to the President's speech while Lizzie was in the shower. It was not the barn burner I expected, it was a speech of gratitude and graciousness. It was very Presidential.

Many of the races went wonderfully, some not. Akin is out, George Allen is out, Mourdock is out. Bachmann is still in.

I'm tired, started in on a cold last night, so what little sleep I got was restless. But I feel good. My body, after a few weeks of being kinda beat up, is doing so much better. Tonight will be low key, Lizzie and kids and I. Tomorrow Lizzie and I will hopefully hit both open mikes in DSM to play some music. This weekend is some school stuff and a bit of fun out in the country courtesy of Ames British Food.

As is so often the case the last couple of years, life could not better be.

My morning

I was just about to leave for work when I got this email.

"Dear (name of school redacted) Parents,
We have gotten several calls in regards to what we are doing with President Obama's speech today.
We do not have plans to show this live today. Our plans are to tape the speech and use where appropriate in our classes later.
I've copied the speech below in case you would like to read it."

I called the ex, we talked for a few minutes, then I called the school. I got a secretary first, who garbled some words for a few moments, then put me on with the Principal. He could not tell me when or if they would show it to the kids, basically avoided saying anything about it being shown. He then told me that he only learned about this on Friday so they didn't have time to include it in their lesson plans, at which point I had enough and took control of the conversation. I first went off at some length about the "we didn't know about this until Friday". I asked him if he watched TV, read any newspapers, or ever went online. Everyone else in the country has known about it for a couple of weeks, I said that on purpose, I'm mean that way. His reply was "it was early last week". Yeah, this is the person who is the Principal at WSPA-2's school contradicting himself.

I told him that his behavior was appalling, un-american, and that he should be ashamed of himself.

WSPA-3's Principal (at an elementary school) had a totally different attitude. "We are not showing it today because it happens right in the middle of recess and lunch". We will show it in it's entirety tomorrow. We will be sending a note home tonight in case anyone wants to keep their kids out of it. She apologized for having to do that and she was the one who brought up how silly that is.

I am still waiting to hear from the Superintendent of WSPA-1's school. The secretary said "we don't show anything that isn't part of the curriculum."

I do want to share my favorite quote on this whole thing.

So, there is this robo call going around

"You need to know that Barack Obama has worked closely with domestic terrorist Bill Ayers, whose organization bombed the U.S. Capitol, the Pentagon, a judge's home, and killed Americans. And Democrats will enact an extreme leftist agenda if they take control of Washington. Barack Obama and his Democratic allies lack the judgment to lead our country."

I think that the DNC needs to quote this.

"It's always a pleasure for me to come on your program, Gordon, and congratulations on your continued success and adherence to the principles and philosophies that keep our nation great." - John McCain to G Gordon Liddy.

Which principles and philosophies are those? Plotting the death of journalist Jack Anderson? Breaking into the DNC office in the Watergate hotel?

A couple of comments. McCain's comments at the end are what I was referring to last night. What he said about Obama was beautiful.

And I will say, for the record, McCain won this debate. He had better writers and better delivery.

McCain was just speaking at the Alfred E Smith Memorial Foundation Dinner. His comments on Obama were astounding. I'll try to get a link to a clip tomorrow.

I mean lump in the throat astounding.

He was also damn funny. Obama is just about on. We'll see how he does.

President Diane Fedele says that it was not racist. Yeah, watermelon, ribs, fried chicken and a black man. No racism there.
