I saw a meme on FB about supporting authors, thought that we needed our own version

Ten Ways To Support Your Favorite Band

Buy Their Music
Write Reviews
Give Their CDs As Gifts
Tell Ten People
Play Their Music For Friends
Post Links To Their Music
Recommend On Your Blog
Take A Friend To Their Concert
Tell Them What You Think
Add Your Own Idea To This List (ok, I ran out of ideas)

Additions
Host a house concert (or any sort of show)

Artists of all sorts are fragile creatures. I know I am. We need to hear your voice in what we do. We need your help getting heard. We need the support. All of the bands you like do.

1961 - 2 years old and living in Glenville WV, probably still in the house that I don't remember, rather than the trailer that I don't remember, and of which neither is there anymore.

1971 - 12 and living in Des Moines in the house on 31st street that is no longer there. The song Don't Go Home was written about that house.

1981 - 22 and going to Drake University and living on 26th street in a tiny attic apartment that Charlie Chesterman nicknames The Garret. It's not there anymore.

1991 - 32 and living in Chicago, my first child is born that year. We are still in the nasty apartment on Winthrop with the crack house downstairs and the bipolar manager who wanders the hall with a loaded gun. Shortly thereafter he commits suicide.

2001 - 42 and living in Ames, IA. The less said about that time the better

2011 - 52 and still living in Ames, but doing much better now. Lizzie moves in a couple of days. We will move again just before the wedding. Life could not better be.

Let's see if things can get livened up here a little.

Go look at my profile, specifically my interests, and ask me about one or more of them. This may be because it is one of your interests and you want to know what I think about it, or it may be because you have no idea what it is. Keep it to under 5 please.

The Rules: Don't take too long to think about it. Fifteen fictional characters (television, films, plays, books, video games) who've influenced you and that will always stick with you. List the first fifteen you can recall in no more than fifteen minutes. Note, tag, etc.

There were two relationships I was in some couple 100 years ago where we would decide what we hadn't tried food wise, and then would pick a restaurant accordingly.

that food meme, this explains a lot about me )

Ask me my fannish Top Five [Whatevers]. Any top fives. Doesn't matter what, really! And I will answer them all in a new post.

I got this via [livejournal.com profile] libra_dragon

So here is how it goes:
Reply to this meme by yelling "Words!" and I will give you five words that remind me of you. Then post them in your LJ and explain what they mean to you.

Of course you don't need to yell, cause you're typing. Any sort of response will do ... sometimes these things are a little silly.

She came up with

MarsCon
I went because Dr D was going to be there. He offered me some stage time, gave me two songs even though he had only played one (still). Then it became dementia music central, and the most fun weekend of music every year (although Mahtowa and Duckon compete pretty strongly, but in wildly different ways)

Iowa
I grew up here, I moved away, I came back, I desperately want to leave again, but, due to the WSPA, I am here for 10 years. It's a nice place to be from

Music
I have a soundtrack in my head. Sometimes it's something I am listening to, sometimes it's something I am working on, but I always have music going.

Guitar
I never really wanted to be a guitar player, but I couldn't come up with anyone who would write what I wanted for my lyrics. Not exactly true, I found the perfect foil once, but he vanished on me one day and I didn't see him for 20 years. So I bought a guitar. I seem to be stuck now.

Toyboat
Bunch of degenerate miscreants. (yeah I know that's redundant, shaddup). My experiences in bands have been ... interesting ... as may you live in interesting times interesting. As a drummer I was marginalized, even then I was writing a lot of lyrics, all of which were ignored. It didn't help that I was a terrible drummer. My punk band Jim? was fun, but problems that at least one member of the band had made life tricky. Soldiers In A Field was the best thing I did musically up to then, but personality conflicts (I had one, he didn't) made it tricky, and the proverbial "artistic differences" finally broke us up. Pity, we did some good stuff. There are other bands in there, but they are, well, not really worth mentioning. Toyboat, as a band, has no ego. Toyboat, as individuals, have no ego. We're there to play. It's the best time I have ever had playing in a band, maybe the best time I have ever had playing music.

Which horror movie character are you?

I'm definitely the fat wise-ass best friend who dies in some really stupid way early on in the movie.

Not every movie is worthy of an Oscar. Hell, some movies aren't worthy of anything much but scorn and derision. The Razzies were born in 1981 and as long was we are all copping to the great movies we've seen, let's fess up to the not-so-great ones we've watched... either in a theater or in the private shame of our homes by highlighting them in bold. I'm adding an extra, italize those that you tried to watch, but gave up on in disgust.

Cut so you can avoid the horror if you wish )

How many of these best-picture Oscar nominated movies have you seen?
Bold the ones you've seen, regardless of whether you saw them in the cinema, on TV/video, or on a plane even years after they came out.

Cut cause I haven't seen enough of these )

You Are Kermit

Hi, ho! Lovable and friendly, you get along well with everyone you know.

You're a big thinker, and sometimes you over think life's problems.

Don't worry - everyone knows it's not easy being green.

Just remember, time's fun when you're having flies!

It's only cause I want people to talk about me ...

"If you saw me in a police car, what would you think I got arrested for?

Answer me, then if you feel the need to have people talk about you, post to your own journal and see how many crimes you get accused of."
