McCain was just speaking at the Alfred E Smith Memorial Foundation Dinner. His comments on Obama were astounding. I'll try to get a link to a clip tomorrow.

I mean lump in the throat astounding.

He was also damn funny. Obama is just about on. We'll see how he does.

I got Jamie all in a lather once because I made the comment that, just from the interviews I'd seen him on with Leno, etc., that I liked him--he IS funny, when he's not being a Republican or actively seeking office. Boy, was she pissed. She evetually got over it.

Unfortunately, he HATES Boeing (I don't know why), and his position on many of the issues just makes it really hard to vote for him.

Then again, I'm of the firm opinion that anyone running for office must be crazy and so should be automatically barred from ever holding public office. Public officials should have to be dragged, kicking and screaming, into office. Of course, there are downsides to this approach as well...

I did get the sense, from this presentation, that McCain really is a decent human being when you strip away all the political bullshit. His slavering, rabid anti-choice stance and most of his policies don't work for me, but I can see that he could be a good guy if you got him away from Cheney, Rove, and the whole Universe of Hate (TM) that is the Republican campaign machine.
