I want your input into this song. It can be heard at my My Space page.

[livejournal.com profile] starstraf asked me about this when I first posted a link to the song. It's a song about a little town dying out slowly and my mourning of this. In it there is a mention of Walmart making it impossible for the town to ever thrive again. I am worried that this will unbalance the song. The song is not about Walmart, since it had nothing to do with the demise of the town, but the reaction to the verse has been mixed. Below the cut I have two versions of the lyrics, the original, and a rewrite with the Walmart verse cut out. What do you think?

It should be up on my MySpace page now. I couldn't get to it this morning, but storms made our connections a little wonky.

I have a week to get this ready for Mahtowa, so if anyone has any comments of any sort, they're welcome.

I will have the new song up on my myspace page in a couple of hours. I am going to record the other song for the festival here in just a bit, but it's such a performance piece for such a specific instance that I might not put it up anywhere, not that I don't want anyone to hear it, just that I don't think it will work well as a recording.

I'm still having some problems burning off to the computer, but I think that is fixable. I can only get one channel, not stereo. It's the cord I am using (get a new cord, I'll bring another one in tomorrow), the output of the mixer (mix out of the headphone jack for now, need a new stereo to stereo mini cord) or it's the jack into the computer (pretty sure that it is not, the stuff I did at home this morning came out in stereo)

The hiss seems to be less too ... so things are going better

I worked on a demo version of Ghosts tonight. Hopefully I can get a halfway decent master of it and will have it up on the myspace account this weekend.

Things march along. If I can just get rid of the hiss.

I've been fighting with a new song for a year or more now. It's a song about Clendenin WV, where I went for my grandmother's funeral a month or so ago.

I couldn't find the structure or the point of view.

I was listening to Howard Krantz this afternoon, and found the emotional response I wanted in the song. It in no way resembles anything Howard does, but I do have to thank him for kind of paving the way.

Once I had the emotional spine of the song, the rest was easy

The Ghost Of This Old Town is more or less done. It will be the second song in my entry for the Mahtowa Folks Festival Songwriting Contest
