I was going to be rooming with Xap and my youngest son Jared. A couple of weeks before Xap informed me that Lizzie was looking for a place to crash. By this time we had talked quite a bit, and even got up on stage with each other at Capricorn earlier that year.

I had a considerable crush on her.

Not being stupid I said sure, that would be fine with me. Being stupid I was still under the impression that she would never be interested in me. Hey, I had seen the Cap photos, and I still didn’t get it.

We talked a lot Friday night after Jared and Xap had fallen asleep. To be fair, I talked a lot. I was a little nervous as we were going to be sharing a bed that night. Hey, it’s a con.

Saturday night I retreated back up to the room to have some food (someone, I don’t remember who, made a Pita Inn run, it might have been me) and decompress a bit. Lizzie asked me if she could join me. Once again, not being stupid, I said yes. Being stupid … well you know …

We have both told the story many times. She said “you don’t get it do you?” I said “Get what?” She got out the construction paper and crayons and drew diagrams.

And I realized that she was interested in me. It takes some people longer than others.

The next day, as I was packing up the car to go home, I said to her “you’ve given me a lot to think about”. A couple of weeks later we decided to meet up at Strollers in St Louis, but that is a story for later.

I keep thinking that I can’t feel any stronger for her than I do already. I am proved wrong in that over and over.

I adore you my fabulous Lizzie Crowe.

Four years ago I was here at Musecon, sharing a room with Jared, Xap, and this lovely young woman who I had recently started performing with. I had a considerable crush on the young woman, but me being me, I figured there would be no way she would ever be interested in me.

I may have been mistaken about that last bit.

Saturday night of the con, I had acquired food and wanted to retreat to the room for a bit of downtime. She asked if she could come up and hang out, if I wouldn't mind. I am not foolish enough to refuse the company of a lovely woman, no matter how disinterested in me me she may be.

She: You don't get it do you?
Me: Get what?

Yeah, that was my response. We had a long conversation and Sunday, as I was packing the car I said to her "you've given me a lot to think about".

A month later we met at Strowlers and this began in earnest.

Three years ago, here at Musecon, we stood up in front of a lot of our family, with a lot of our family standing with us, and had the most wonderful wedding we could have had.

Four years after that conversation on a Saturday night we woke up in the same hotel, with a lot of the same family around us. This time it is both Jared and Reilly with us in the room.

Even after the terrible year we have had, we are more in love and happier every day.

I love you my glorious Lizzie Crowe. You have made my life a better thing, and me a better person. Here is to many, many more years!

We will be performing in Ames on July 10 at a benefit at the Ames Unity Church for the Joplin Unity Church. The Joplin church was destroyed by a tornado a few weeks ago. I don't know how long of a set we will play, but expect to have more info shortly. Directions are here. The show starts at 6pm, there will be a BBQ starting at 5.

We will be sharing the stage with Amy Rohn at the Life Force Arts Center in Chicago August 27. As I understand it we will both be playing 45 minute sets. Cover is $10 in advance, $15 at the door. The show starts at 8pm.

Lizzie and I will be celebrating our wedding at Musecon August 6. Come for the wedding, stay for the con!

You don't have to be a member of the con to come to the wedding, but I do highly recommend it, it's going to be tremendous fun! There will be much music made in the evenings! AND, as an extra added attraction, the entire WSPA will be in attendance!

As always, the best source for Cheshire Moon stuff is on our website, which will be updated shortly, and on our Facebook Page (yeah, I know, so many people hate FB, but it's necessary nowadays, kinda like MySpace was a few years ago).

A friend is looking to share a ride from Des Moines to Chicago for Musecon. She can't leave till after 3ish Friday, coming back is more open. Anyone?

Musecon0 sure looked like it worked to me. I had a marvelous time, and expect to have a better time next year. I went back and forth as to whether I was going to go to Mahtowa this year, and I certainly made the right choice.

The panels I got to were fun. WSPA-2 was along and went to the harmonica panel and the blues panel. I looked in on a lot of the craft stuff, and there were always a bunch of folks in the back of the music room knitting, painting and lots of other stuff.

If you are into anything creative, this may be the con for you, even if you aren't a geek.

Now for the band and personal stuff ...

First of all I have a new rule. Always room with two fabulous babes. Always. It's good for you.

The band had a blast. It wasn't our most musically perfect show, but which one is really? Here's what we played.

Uplift
Hellraiser
Sunset Boulevard
This Island Earth (new arrangement)
Wheels (Foo Fighters cover)
Reach For The Stars
Poolhall At The End Of The Universe
Son Of A Witch
Zombie Mama
Rocket Launcher/Gimmie Shelter
Roman Wall Blues (two versions starting with it done ala the Stray Cats, yeah, the Stray Cats, it damaged poor [livejournal.com profile] beige_alert)
Last Ride of the Cthulhu Kid (our new filkabilly song, yes I said filkabilly)
Banned From Argo
Would You Like To Play A Game?

I played some both nights. Music circles were small but wonderful. [livejournal.com profile] lizziecrowe and I did Follow That Road (Anne Hill) and Swamp Witch (Jim Stafford). I'm getting more and more excited about working with her. It's looking to be very cool, very eclectic and very very fun.

I did FPN both nights, with mostly different verses. I have now put the printout in my book into alphabetical order. It keeps growing. I also did Bang My Bald Spot and Hides, with WSPA-2 playing along, so I got a lot of music in. The funniest thing for me all weekend was a very lovely woman who sang along with both FPN and Follow That Road. I need to be friends with her, and not just because she's lovely, I mean come on, she's got to be fairly twisted.

I swam a lot. WSPA-2 and I went Friday, [livejournal.com profile] exapno, WSPA-2 and I Saturday and [livejournal.com profile] lizziecrowe, [livejournal.com profile] exapno, WSPA-2 and I went Sunday morning. My shoulders are a little annoyed with me, but it feels good.

I did wear one of my Mahtowa shirts all day Saturday. But going to Musecon was really the right thing. A lot of my friends need to go next year.

You have to do this now ... I need it within the hour. Give me a song to add to FPN.

The folks at Musecon will curse you.

Hmmm, Musecon this weekend. Chicago area. Now I just have to work out how to get to the nearest Pita Inn! Who wants to meet for lunch Saturday? It looks like Wheeling would be the easiest to get to for me
