I went to Boheme last night.

Last night was the 5 year anniversary of [livejournal.com profile] cryndalae booting me out of the house, since she was sick and tired of my bitching and moaning about not playing music.

It's her fault.

I played

Woman I Want
Trophy Wife
Color Of Your Eyes
How Can I Miss You?

So it was a set dedicated to the wife. She kibitzed from the audience.

Darn wonderful.

And the Moose, Squirrel and Bunny and I camped out all weekend at a farm north of here. It was a blast.

I had a great weekend ... more later. I must re-crash now (a continuation of the earlier crash today)

Two guys after me playing turkish folk music ... amazing ... I hope they show up again.

The guy before me plays a mike through a bunch of effects pedals ... he ... as always ... was hysterical

Leslie And The Lys were there. She has a new CD/DVD out later in the year.

I did a short set (I have been having problems with my hands lately)

Woman I Want (dedicated to Leslie)
Color Of Your Eyes
Trophy Wife

It seemed to be a theme night for some reason. Tons of fun.

How Can I Miss You
Perfect Moments
Hides

I had been talking to both Isaac and Andy earlier in the evening, which made me want to play Hides. I thought that I should do Perfect Moments, which has not been getting much play. It went very well. I had the lyrics on the floor, but didnt really need them. Now if I can do that with just a few more songs.

I'm going to try to be good and work on the stuff from the new CD this week and in the following weeks. I've been too lazy lately.

I didnt have a chance to talk about Boheme last night.

It was a very odd crowd. Very few seemed willing to laugh, but they did stare at me with blank faces.

It was nice to see one of the old sunday boys back after some considerable time gone.

I was asleep when my friend Isaac called. I ran off to Boheme and I'm glad I did. It was a high energy show and the audience was great ... just great. My right hand started slowing down in the last song, but I made it. WAY too much guitar playing this weekend and it's been great.

So, tonight was fun at Boheme ...

I stopped some Katzenjammer Kid tendencies ... at least a little.

It was a pretty stock sunday night set, I couldnt play guitar to save my life last night, but bulldozed through it.

There was a row of folks right down front who laughed at everything, sure makes one's job easier

How Can I Miss You?

It was a loud audience, although there were some folks really getting into it. There was one really drunk guy yelling at everything. I feel bad for the guy following me, since his stuff is real gentle.

I'm feeling better, although still not up to my usual, getting there though

So ... a return to my favorite sunday night spot

A great night, the guy who went before me is a regular and man I love his songs. We traded CDs and I feel kinda ashamed ... his is so good, mine is ... well ... you know me ...

Perfect Moments - the best version ever I think
Need - 3rd fret this time, it felt good.
Band My Bald Spot - by request
How Can I Miss You? - and they sang along
Standards - very hyper version

It felt good, and the audience seemed to dig it ... a nice night

and now I am sunburned and tired and going to bed

So ... did a short set tonight ... went well ... felt good ... was pretty ignored except near the end when I talked a bit.

Standards

A fair amount of patter ... and it felt good ...

Leslie and the Lys were there again ... deeply twisted as always. Her song about Zombies was brilliant

So ... went to Boheme last night ... did

Low Self Esteem
How Can I Miss You?
Bang My Bald Spot
Hey Dad (once again with the new 90s verse)

Had a nice time regardless of the folks talking loudly.

Shortly after was a set from the ever stunning Leslie And The Lys

They now have a complete multi-media act

Dementia folks ... you have GOT to see Leslie. ShoEboX ... she is fairly near you (she was in town for a week) ... you need to do a show with her

A long set for an open mike ... but well worth it, including some songs I had not heard before. I have to get the full length CD (and finally get the tracks she sent to me sent to Dr D and Luke)

A great night and a great weekend

So how are you ???

The weekend

It's been a lovely weekend.

Both nights of [livejournal.com profile] guppiecat's party were very nice. I don't get many chances to be social around here. So it was much fun. Got to play a little too (as I have already reported)

Recording went well. I don't know what I have that is usable yet, but we'll see this week.

Tonight at Boheme was fun. An old friend was there to play for the first time in ages. In the meantime she had gotten married and had a little boy. It was nice to catch up and see pictures of her new little one.

I played pretty well.

Woman I Want (it may have been coincidence, but I think that a woman in the audience gave me a standing ovation for the song ... probably coincidence)

I didnt play anything too dreadfully fast. A little fast but not too fast. A good weekend.

An ok night tonight. 4 songs and some various points of silliness. I didn't go record, I felt the odd (for me) need to go and be social all weekend, so I did that instead

Standards
Hey Dad

WYSIWYG

The set got hijacked at the end as folks bugged me to play Crank Generation and WYSIWYG. So I did WYSIWYG. A good version. I think I am going to do it at the standup open mike thursday.

Last night I went to Boheme and realized that I had skipped a page when I signed up. So I had no time. A very nice young woman said she was only doing a short set so I got to do one song. After a couple comments about Justin Timberlake (a guy did a VERY funny version of one of his songs) and the aforementioned woman saying she would learn a Britny Spears cover for the next time I decided that Golden Age Of Silicon would get good laughs.

It did

Also ... MARTIN guitars everywhere last night.

Tonight I went to the standup open mike at the comedy club in DSM. Did well. Good patter leading into How Can I Miss You? I did butcher the 3rd verse, but that's ok

A good couple of nights.

Open wide

There were a lot of folks playing tonight, so it was a short set

Home Again - the best version ever. Period
Standards - NOT the best version ever ... lyric roulette
Trophy Wife - A request from someone who had just bought the CD.

It was a pretty good set.

There was a LOT of talent there tonight though. This kid who I will call S is an amazing songwriter. Very quiet breathy alt-pop stuff. somewhere between Nick Drake and Elliot Smith. Stunningly lovely songs.

A guy around my age who hadnt been there in ages. He was there tonight with a fiddle player.

This guy who I have seen there for ages now, but never heard play before. Very Roy Harper-esque sort of song writing

A really good night of music, I wanted to stay later, but ... work tomorrow ... grumble
ericcoleman: (Default)
So, I was talking earlier about doing songs too fast, so what did I do tonight.

I played almost everything too fast

Standards - the best of the lot, only a little too fast
Hey Dad - Just about right
How Can I Miss You ??? - TOO fast
Bang My Bald Spot - manic

still, got a great response from the audience.

Now I'm too wired to sleep

Tonight

The transitions were fun. Something I said made Isaac refer to my appearance in a certain bass player's list of men who got away, I made a comment about missing it totally and went right into Low Self Esteem.

I talked about working on the new CD (going to do scratch tracks next weekend, anyone wanna hear them?) and the covers CD. And just had a good time.

Hmmm

I did some old songs tonight at Boheme

In Crosby Park - In a different key that I used to do it, I'm still not comfortable with it but I'm getting there. The new instrumental bridge is working out ok, makes it even more of a Jethro Tull sort of song
Home Again - It's been probably 4 years since I did this one. It went ok, lyric problems but the guitar part worked real well.
Need - It's been awhile since I did this one. I'm rewriting the chorus a little but the words aren't quite done. I jumbled the 2nd verse a little, but it's getting there as well
Bang My Bald Spot - Thanks Dr.

I can't get on either of the servers that are playing the Dr's show tonight, so I probably can't hear it till I get a copy from someone else. If I had realized that there was a station that played it yesterday.

Oh well.

It was a good weekend, how was yours ???
ericcoleman: (Default)
I had a sleepy weekend. Two road trips in two weeks and 4 in about 6 weeks has finally beaten me down.

I stayed in bed and watched movies much of the weekend. I feel much better (except for a whole bronchitis thing, but that happens occasionally)

I have started back into practicing a lot more. My goal is to go upstairs every morning at work and run through 5-7 songs. Everything on my playlist. Including stuff I haven't played for ages.

One of these songs, Home Again, has drifted back into the A-list after some years of being ignored. One of my better guitar parts (back when I used to write much more complicated stuff) and a pretty interesting serious lyric. We'll see what happens to it.

There are a couple of other songs that, while I will play them, will not make it onto the A-list.

Boheme was fun, even if my blood sugar crashed about halfway through the first song. I ate too early and not too well

How Can I Miss You?

Color Of Your Eyes (see above)
Trophy Wife
WYSIWYG

I think I sucked, other seemed to enjoy it.

I went to the recently resurrected old time jam last night. It ended up being more of a blues jam since there were more blues people there, but it was still a pretty good time.

My fingers are screaming, but see the first part of this post for what I am going to do about it.

So, how are you? Do not answer in Haiku.
ericcoleman: (Default)
I'm tired. I just got back from the open mike, this after playing LOTS of music at Marscon this weekend.

I'm tired.

I don't know yet if this is the short form or not, depends on whether I fall asleep or not )
