Yeah, their careers are over, done, finished.

Their new CD only debuted at #1. What shall they do.

This is from Billboard, see if you can spot what the spin in the right wing media is going to be ...

For the third time in their career, the Dixie Chicks roost on the top of The Billboard 200. The Columbia album "Taking the Long Way" tallied 526,000 copies in its first week of U.S. sales, according to Nielsen SoundScan, the trio's best-selling week since 2002's "Home" debuted with 780,000.

A more cynical person would suspect the reason for them being so out-going in their controversy is to generate record sales.

But that's someone more cynical than me.

except that being banned on radio stations doesn't seem to be having a negative effect on their record sales.

just sayin.

i can't actually defend my cynicsm, i only know that there are people who will generate a big stink protest in order to gain attraction to their thing that they're selling. Like those artists who always seem to announce they're gay just before their new album comes out, especially after their last album did poorly.

There! I spotted it! The right wing spin! No one can be critical of Lord Bush except for cynical monetary reasons!

Do I win a prize? Will the conservative news media slime me?

I'm stuck in a unique position.

I hate them and it's because of that stupid song 'Goodbye Earl', nothing else.

So when I say I don't like them, I get some person ripping into me that I hate free speech and etc, etc, and then I say, "No. My name is Earl, and that song has been humiliating to me." and then I get, "Oh. Sorry. So...Do you watch that show?" Like that's any better and sice my name is Earl, I MUST watch the show.

I can't win. ;)

I thought I'd share that sidebar from my life. Thanks for humoring me.

I use CD-ROMs all the time. (I tell my class, "Yes, they named it after me.")

Just keep either Cledus Judd's "Goodbye Squirrel" or my "Goodbye Bill" in mind whenever anyone taunts you with the orignal. ;)

Guaranteed that bastard Bill O'Reilly will be talking about their sales being "down 30%" as proof of the Dixie Chicks being out of "the mainstream" (whatever that means).

Remember, Billy has a book called "Culture Warrior" coming out soon. I bet he has a whole chapter on the Dixie Chicks.

how can one be a culture warrior ....

If they do try that kind of spin, they should keep in mind that CD sales AS A WHOLE are down by about the same percentage since 2002....
