If you comment...

1. I'll respond with something random I like about you.
2. I'll tell you what song/movie reminds me of you.
3. I'll name something we should do together.
4. I'll say something that only makes sense to you and me (or just me).
5. I'll tell you my first/clearest memory of you.
6. I'll leave you a quote that is somehow appropriate to you.
7. I'll ask you something that I've always wondered about you.
8. If I do this for you, you must post this on your journal so you can do the same for other people.

I know you have told me this before, but how did you get into the brothers

Mostly due to my dad....who's actually not that much of a Marx Brothers fan, but is a general old-movie fan :) So when i was little we'd spend quite a bit of time together watching whatever random movies were running, usually on PBS/odd local stations...especially rainy Sunday afternoons :) As best i can recall, that was my main intro....and their films were among the ones that i adored the most. Especially my Harpo :) Such fun! He always radiated that "just being me, having fun, etc" sort of thing....and then there was his music *sigh* Anyway - was completely shocked when i stumbled across a ratty copy of his book in junior high (even the librarian was surprised, tho moreso by who was checking it out i think), read it avidly, and that just cemented the hook :)

Not #8, but this is a self referential comment, referring to itself in comment form.

1 & all) Thanks. 3&4) Yes, we should do a Shockwave skit/play/fragment together. Preferably with more rehearsal... 2) I dunno about Real Genius: Maybe King of Hearts or It's A Mad Mad Mad Mad World or Ben Hur. Okay, maybe not Ben Hur, but some other Big Budget Silent. Thief of Bagdad?

7) I got into radio through silent movies. All silents have a soundtrack, and projecting/studying them in HS and college got me thinking about sound design. Many of my plays are basically movies, with the kinds of images and transitions that would be hard to do in the theater. I try to incorporate at least one element in each radio play that wouldn't work in another media. With exceptions, of course.

Without going through piece by piece, the two plays that most reflect my worldview (both on Shockwave Silver) are When the Chips Are Down (How can you objectively determine sanity? A question unanswered in either version.) and You're Riding The Shockwave (The main part with Izzy Apikoiros the AI: What does it mean to be human? A question answered before we go off into the final bits.)

I agree wholeheartedly on #3 -- you name the con/venue, I'll be there.

On #7...hmm...that's a hard one for me. My all-time favorite band is Def Leppard, but I'm not sure if that's the one I simply couldn't do without. Probably between Lep, Nirvana, and Petra.

LOL "Cheerful cynicism" sounds like a contradiction in terms! Hee hee hee

Hmmm...why not? (Stock answer.)

And agreed on #3!

p.s. yes we have talked about Court Jester lately because you recently bought a copy which made me want to go home and watch it again.

LOL There's always a reason...not always a good reason, but there's frequently a reason. Not to say that reason enters into it, however, because it is possible to have unreasonable reasons for doing things!

Where does fandom start for me? Hmmm...I'd classify anybody who enjoys SF and participates in our subculture as a "trufan." There are related groups: UFO devotees used to be a large presence at cons, but these days they mostly do their own thing. While the SCA started out as an all-fan group, and got a big boost from the first Worldcon at which their combat was demonstrated, these days it's perfectly possible to be in the SCA without being a member of "fandom" proper. Most role-playing and miniatures gamers would qualify, but not so many tabletop wargamers.

As far as "rock-filk opera" goes---got any ideas for a subject?

2 - Yes, you've told me, more than once I think :D
3 - That sounds like fun and I'd love to!
7 - My friend Wally was showing me his and his wife's extensive Rocky Horror collection, and when we got to the CDs, he had to play Luke Ski's "Rocky Horror" and "Mystery Science Theater Picture Show" for me. I loved them so much that I had to hear the whole CD. He made a copy of 'Carpe Dementia' for me after making me promise that I'd someday purchase a legit copy. I listened to it to death and when Luke visited the Merillville Rocky Horror cast (coincidentally, during my last show with them as an official cast member) I bought every CD he had available and listened to them to death as well... Was astounded by the concept of "taking a SONG that I love and making it about someTHING that I love" and thought he was at least as talented as Weird Al... then I started hanging out in #dementia, listening to Dementia Radio and went to Marscon '04 and it all kind of took off from there...
