should we underline all the ones we've downloaded off the internet? *snerk*
ut becomes clear I am not enough of a music snob . . .

There are some choices of album by particular performers that I'd not have pegged as the 'snob' album, that's for sure. If this is shooting for music SNOB, some of the snobbiest picks sure would be not the artist's BEST, but most notable. So, Metal Machine Music sure fits on the list, 'cause it was done as a big F.U. to the label and some folks even tried to review it(!)... But to pick just one Waits album, and they not only pick Rain Dogs over, oh, all his 1970s ones, but misspell it, too? Ha. And I'm not even half the music snob of many I know.

Also, where's Olatunji?

But "I prefer his earlier stuff" is pretty much the prototypical music snob statement. :)

I own one of them and have heard two others. There are numerous artists of whom I own or have heard other albums (or parts of, but not all of) the specific ones listed. And there's one of the two I've heard that I know Erik had when we were married, so I would be an ex-owner-in-law of that one.

But I don't consider myself a music snob at all, even a little, and never have. If I like it, I like it - I'm not too worried about what anybody else thinks.

This isn't a meme and includes very few of my favorite albums. Count me out.

(No Beatles? No Steeleye Span? No Luke Ski? Sheesh.)

Hey now. Patti Smith (who just won an award in France) and Eno are still alive, among others. If the list has to exclude living people, where is the Harry Partch? Glenn Gould? Timothy Leary? Ernie Kovacs?

And I'm always on the cutting edge at the new wave of avante guarde. I listen to music with my pinky in the air. Any music I listen to is, by definition, a snob thing. Even the Wombles.

Date: 2005-07-13 04:44 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] barondave.livejournal.com
Well, sort of. Patti Smith came back at the death of her husband and brother. And Eno is still alive and giving BBC interviews.

And much of the Wombles doesn't exist in digital form... except for the cuts I've digitized from the vinyl. Nyah ah ah (he says, twirling his Snidely Whiplash handlebar mustache).

Be that as it may (and it might), this is still not a meme. If I really want to be a music snob, I listen to the 1812 Overture and not think of the Lone Ranger.
