So ... [livejournal.com profile] cryndalae, in an unusual bit of cleverness, decided to not go out and buy me anything for FD. Smart move ... I am HARD to buy for. She instead went out and got an Amazon gift certificate for me.

So, what I got today

J-Men Forever - The Procter And Bergman cut up of classic Republic movie serials into something wildly different. Hysterically funny.
Crimson Pirate - one of the last of the great swashbucklers that I didn't have
Robin Hood - The extended dance mix Costner version ... ok ... it's cheesy but if you overlook his accent problems it really is a fun movie.

So ... I need recommendations ... I am looking for more swashbuckler films ... what I have (off the top of my head)

The Adventures Of Robin Hood
The Errol Flynn box set (which takes care of Captain Blood and The Sea Hawk)
The Three Musketeers (the 70s classics)
The Mark Of Zorro

I'm thinking I need a version of Prisoner Of Zenda, I need to check to see what is in print

Any other recommendations ???

x-posted to [livejournal.com profile] classic_film

Update: I do have the complete Musketeers and Pirates Of the Caribean as well

update two - Neither version of Prisoner of Zenda are available on DVD ... the 37 or the 52 ... creeps

Sorry. Usually, just hitting the Back button takes me back to my original screen and I can edit and repost (dunno if you get another e-mail notification), but this time it got lost and I posted three times. Ooooh, I'm such a perfectionist.

Kwaidan (he finally spells it right) is a series of four Japanese horror stories that are beautifully photographed. You could watch it with the sound/closed captioning off and just sit back and gaze at the marvelous backgrounds, makeup, costumes and sets. The stories are presented very slowly and deliberately. More a creeping horror than a screamfest, all the stories are well done. Hoishi the Earless is the best told, but Woman of the Snow is just gorgeous. I don't recall which one has the sea battle, but at one point a horde of samurai leap from small boat to small boat, hacking and battling away amid the fog. Short but swashbuckling.
