I very nearly cleared the room. Wow ... that was a first. Yeah you lose some of the audience sometimes, but 70% or so ...

Here is ... more or less ... what I played

Pine City Motel Blues
Marilyn Monroe (Bern)
I Want To Kill Everybody (Haynes)
In Crosby Park (on the 12 string)
Color Of Your Eyes (ditto)
Ghosts (and yeah)
Hey Dad (back to the 6)
Standards
Trophy Wife
Woman I Want (after nearly all the women have left)
Low Self Esteem (fitting at the moment)
How Can I Miss You?
Nice Guys

Wow ... I mean ... was I bad ??? I dunno ...

It was a long and fairly nasty drive, lots of bad weather toward the end.

But I'm home.

It was a great weekend. I got to meet some great people, saw a wonderful musician who I probably would have never heard otherwise. Played a good show. Limped less and less as the weekend went along.

I thought about hitting the open mike tonight, but I think I need to get to bed and get the week off to a good start tomorrow.

I'm going to start recording next weekend.

I just wish I had a place to play sometime in the near future.

I did have some folks ask me to come play at a festival in August. Same weekend as Mahtowa. I hate it when that happens.

It was a nice weekend, but now I'm a little depressed. I need to play.

I hung out in the con suite and talked to some folks and played a few more songs.

I needed that

Nice Guys
How Can I Miss You?
Color Of Your Eyes
Hides

It was nice and laid back.

I've kind of discovered some things about my guitar playing this weekend. I'm going to explore them a little more the next week or so and talk about them more then.

It's been wonderful

So [livejournal.com profile] cryndalae helped me load the car (ok, she loaded the car). She went and bought me an ankle brace and a cheap cane.

And I drove ... and I drove ... and I drove. About 37 hours I drove. Well, my foot drove 37 hours, I drove 7.

I have had some uncomfortable trips, but this was the worst.

And man was it worth it.

I arrived at the hotel around 5, [livejournal.com profile] khadagan showed me to the room (thanks so much for putting me up) and I crashed for a bit (after some supper and socializing)

I came wandering in just in time for the show and it was a great show.

A great deal of what makes for a great show is the audience. It was a great audience. As is the case so often when I play in the right places, they were a mile ahead of me at all times.

the set list )

Somewhere in the middle of the set I lost three serious songs, I may try to play them at the jam tonight.

I hung out and watched Snakes Rising. the dancers were amazing, the drummers were amazing, the flautist was amazing, the guitarist/vocalist was amazing.

It was a lovely night.

More about today later

We got hit by BIG straight line winds a little while ago. It turned over a couple of trailers in the trailer court down the road.

I was walking to the door to see if any damage was being done to my car.

I stepped on a shoe and turned my ankle ... bad ... not the worst I have ever had ... but bad.

I have to drive 7-8 hours tomorrow ... fortunately it's my left ankle.

It's still gonna be hell

Airlines wonder why they are losing money ... simple ... they give crap service.

I'm scrambling to find a fare I can afford to get to NC later this week. My grandmother is dying, probably in the next day or two. My mother is deep in chemo and can't fly with any real degree of safety to her health.

So I'm trying to get to NC so I can drive my mother to WV for the services. Neither of us are going to try to get there before. My grandmother is out and will be till the end, so she wouldnt be aware of us being there. My mother cannot skip chemo this week, more detail on that at a later date.

None of the airlines will give a bereavement fare. Well, one will but only one way. The attitude seems to be that they don't give the fare if the plane is anywhere near full ... dosn't that negate the idea of the bereavement fare ???

I may hit the road tomorrow afternoon.

One of the things that this means ...

My long fight to make it to Congenial seems to be lost. The money to do it appeared last week ... I informed them that it was going to happen, but now there is no chance ... I so needed that weekend ... just for the relaxation if nothing else

And the folks who run the festival in St Louis havent answered my email from last week ... so the next two (and last booked at this time till we find out what the money situation is, it may be months before another road trip) seem to both be in peril ... ok, the St Louis probably isn't, but I am in alarmist mode at the moment.

So how is your day ???

edit

It looks like flying Southwestern out of Omaha is less than any of the special fares I have seen. So that looks like what I am going to do.
