Oddly enough
Aug. 13th, 2006 11:36 amUnder most circumstances I would consider
polyfrog to be one of the most truthful people I know ... more in his LJ
Last night was a blast. Steve Mac was his usual brilliant self. Probably the best show vocally I have ever seen him do. He didn't do Dutchman, but I can live with that just this once. His improvs were the hit of the evening. Ren gigs have really sent him to a whole new level. I wish I could make it to a faire he was at, I'd love to see him work that sort of a crowd.
The song circle was a blast (although not as much as the ride home). I can never remember the name of the WI filker who uses all the midi backings. But it is always a nice thing to have him in the circle. That way I am guaranteed to not be the most twisted person there. We left to the sound of his LOTR song.
I only got in two songs, mostly because we needed to get back to the aformentioned Polyfrog's house and collapse. Did Ghosts and Hides. Andy was in town so ... well ... and then
decadentdave got into the act.
Sometimes it's tricky playing with other people. Last night was especially tricky since I wanted to stop and just listen to him play guitar.
I have to go hunt and kill food, and then we need to get on the road soon. More later.

A quick tangent
Jun. 18th, 2006 09:21 pmI have to say how touching it is when the best musician I know questions about whether what he was playing was appropriate during a song.
markiv1111, I have never known you to do anything that is not appropriate. I have known a lot of players with a lot of chops, some (and very few) with even more than you. But beyond that, what you have is the ability to listen, and to find what is appropriate. Knowing you makes me a better musician. Playing with you is a priviledge. There are a few musicians who I know I can trust completely when I am playing. I got to play with two of them during Hides last night. Andy and I have played Hides a lot together. Every time is an incredible experience. Sharing that with you, and you sharing your talent, is wonderful. Thank you.
Obviously Hides went well. I wrote this while writing the last message, but it didn't seem appropriate in that message. But it certainly had to be said.

So ... it was a short set ... and a late night ...
There was a lot of good music though ...
the rap boys were back ... with more funny stuff ... I told them again that they need to get some songs to Dr D and Luke and Tony ...
two waifish young women who both had BIG voices ...
and some popish boys ...
all with a lot of talent ... so I got to hear some nice music ...
I played three songs (apparantly to Pete's dismay ... he seemed amazed when I said I was done)
Golden Age Of Silicon - kinda sloppy ... I haven't done it in awhile
Perfect Moments - for some reason it still dosn't work ... don't know why
Hides - a friend of mine came up to me after and said "and here I thought you were just a wise-ass with a guitar"
So I take that as Hides was quite good ...
