My weekend

It's been a weekend. Here is the quick rundown

I was involved in a Lakota ritual for the dead, complete with a steam lodge. It was one of the most extreme, wonderful, painful and exhilarating moments of my life. I didn't make it to the end. I had to bail out of the lodge (after about 2 hours) as I was about to pass out. But it was amazing, life affirming and mind opening experience. My friend Susan is doing well, as well as she can be under the circumstance. I'll try to write more about this in a day or so, once I process the information a little more.

I was in a Karoake contest, at the urging of the wife. I won 3rd place. Singing Elvis Costello in a place that is mostly a country bar. Go figger ...

Went swimming with the mutants today and got sunburned. Another oddly exhilarating moment

My set at Boheme tonight was great. I played ...

Low Self Esteem
Trophy Wife
Bang My Bald Spot
Nice Guys

I stuck with the older stuff tonight, since I wanted to see if I could sell some CDs. I sold one ... cool

Regardless of some of the circumstances it was a great weekend.

Mine was pretty fun ... and tiring ...

Friday was the wife's b-day ... so I went with her to her usual friday night karaoke hangout ... it was a blast as usual ... but even more so since it was her b-day ...

The deal was she wanted me to play a set but that didn't happen ... instead I talked the folks there into letting me plug in on my turns and play my songs ... I really don't like playing one song ... taking a break for 45 minutes ... and then playing a song ... I played everything too fast since I got all worked up ...

Sunday I decided I needed to learn a Johnny Cash song ... I'm pretty broken up about his death ... it seems that I am losing a lot of heroes the last year or so ...

I no sooner got up on the stage then the audience started heckling ... I think that is going to be the norm ...

I did 4 songs (as usual) and the only one that I really did right was Ring Of Fire ... which I had run through twice before over in the corner an hour before ...

Ring Of Fire (June Carter Cash)
New Dawn Fades (Joy Division)
pretty funny actually ... it's 4 chords that repeat over and over ... and I messed it up
Bang My Bald Spot (requested even)
Crank Generation
There is a guy who shows up occasionally who LOVES this song ... and I never get away without doing it when he is there

I wasn't really warmed up enough to play CG ... so my hand was hurting ...

at some point I mentioned my wife ... and got a really funny reaction ... YOU have a wife ... heeee

a great weekend ... can I go back to bed now ???

Two places to play this weekend ...

The Colo Bar in Colo IA ... a place where the wife hangs out ... She had been wanting to show me off there for some time ... so I went and did mostly funny stuff
A friend named Susan does a killer version of Color Of Your Eyes ... so she sang ... her version will be the leadoff track on the Covers CD ...

Low Self Esteem Talking Blues
Trophy wife
Product might be hot
Color Of Your Eyes (with special guest vocalist Susan Rainbolt)
WYSIWYG
Oh Shannon
Crank Generation
Bang my bald spot

Sunday night as usual ... a great set ... a great audience ... Almost Beautiful was as good as it has ever been ...
Almost Beautiful
Low Self Esteem
Color Of Your Eyes
Golden Age Of Silicon
