It is a changing of the guard today.

A little over 7 years ago I spent an awful lot of money on my Ford Escape Hybrid. Sticker shock was massive at that time. In the years following, I realized it was the best money I have ever spent.

She has taken us 318k+ miles since then. The folks from the dealership are amazed at how well she runs. I was getting 30.7 mpg this morning. That said, it is time for her to retire from the road. Every time Lizzie and go anywhere as Cheshire Moon, we fill up the back. And she has an awful lot of miles on her.

So she retires to the quiet life of town car for the young man, and today I signed 5 years of my life away for a year old Dodge Grand Caravan. We fold down those back seats and everything, PA, instruments and all other stuff, will fit nicely. As will two other people, if need be, something that couldn't be done before. Musecon was going to be rough this year. We're playing, Jared is playing, Reilly is attending. Now we will all fit easily.

It's a bit of sticker shock again, but not as much (about half actually). I hope to come close to as many miles with this as we did with the Escape.

There was a bit of sadness putting her in the garage and driving away with a new car. The Escape was the first vehicle that I really loved. She got us through a lot, a lot of bad weather, a lot of miles, a lot of fun, a lot of pain. She has been one of the rocks of our lives.

It's hard to believe I became so attached to a car, but I did. Let's see what the new vehicle does for us!

First of all I am not in Canada, I am in Ottawa Illinois, home of the Lincoln Douglas debates. Second, I am here another night. It's the water pump and they won't have the part till tomorrow.I walked down to the evil place and bought some 5 dollar movies and some snacky stuff. My only real complaint is that I will miss Top Gear tonight. I've already done at least half my walk, and will do more shortly, it's a very nice day. I may pull my guitar out of the car and play a little tonight. It doesn't look like I will get to work tomorrow. Still, I'm comfy ... so how are you? Anyone want to wax rhapsodic about the Toyboat show this weekend?
