Radio Capricon
Jan. 9th, 2008 10:36 pmIt's coming together slowly. We will not be transmitting this year, instead dementiaradio.org are being kind enough to supply us with bandwidth, so you can listen from anywhere there is a computer, whether you are at the con or not. I will have a preliminary schedule on my website shortly (eric-coleman.com/rc.html), but since the theme is pirates I would expect that you may hear something to do with that.
And if anyone wants to do an hour here or there, let me know. If you are a Dementia Radio DJ, it's easy enough to just take over, if you aren't we can work something out.
If you are attending the con, and want to take over the station for an hour, that can be worked out as well.
More info coming soon.

Capricon -Show one
Feb. 11th, 2006 10:32 amFirst ... the radio station is running wonderfully.
For the record I want to say that
khadagan has been wonderful, made my life so much easier this weekend, and has been so good on the station. Thank you so very much.
The show friday was a little loose, but a ton of fun.
Only Coffee House In Town
Low Self Esteem (The "let's mess up the chords to the intro" version)
Hey Dad !!!
Don't Go Home (the "in g-string hell" version)
At this point I diverged from the planned set list, like that is a surprise
Bang My Bald Spot
Color Of Your Eyes
Hand Above The Water (edit)
Need
Jordan Cochrane
Standards
Woman I Want
How Can I Miss You?
Nice Guys
Apparently there is another of the performers here who has been saying very nice (but probably wildly innaccurate stuff) about me.
Thank you
It's been a great weekend so far. The antenna fell down once (the record so far, it's usually down at least twice by now), but the station is working perfectly.
More later

Feb. 7th, 2006 01:43 pmPreparation and quick typing pay off
The Kollege Of Musical Knowledge book is done. All departments are entered into the mighty book. Just gotta print it out and punch holes.
The gear is almost ready, I have almost all the cords I need (there is some stuff at home), everything that I need from the studio is ready to go in the car.

Feb. 6th, 2006 09:01 pmI have one more hour to work out, but I'll do that at the con.
I need to make up the book, but it is pretty much ready to go. I have the cover done. I just need to populate the pages. I did a bunch of typing today so I think I have every department ready to just plug into the book. There is a little of layout stuff to do.
The discs are a thing of beauty. No one else really sees them but me (and now
khadagan and Angel), but I still like them to look pretty. So come in and say hi and I'll show you my discs.
Now, as long as the filk show is done (you back from England yet ???) and
lukeski is ready the radio station is pretty much done.

The Dementia Bootleg on Radio Capricon
Jan. 24th, 2006 01:53 pmRC will be featuring a lot of funny music this year. I'm doing a dementia show friday night that will feature both classic and new dementia artists. All of you that I have met I have CDs by.
Those that I do have stuff by, do you have any preferences as to what I play? Those who I don't have stuff by, would you be willing to send me a track to play?
Does anyone have any dementia requests.
I'm setting up discs for the show this week. RC will be 90% music this year, a lot less OTR than in years before.

barondave for giving me a bunch of nifty stuff to play on Radio Capricon,

I need bumpers
Jan. 15th, 2006 11:46 amI'm working on Radio Capricon, slowly but slowly.
So I wondered if anyone wanted to record some announcements for me to play between songs on RC ???
They must mention Radio Capricon and/or The University Of Fandom campus radio but anything else goes
They can be simple promos, if anyone has any sort of commercials that might be amusing that would be good.
If anyone has sound stuff that you think might be appropriate. I have a bunch of sound bites that I use between songs. Quotes from movies (my signature is Shatner saying "I'm from Iowa, I only work in outer space") but I am always looking for more. If anyone knows of a nifty website that might have some good sound stuff please direct me to it (I have already ransacked badmovies.org for a ton of stuff)
Push your products, your website, your podcast or just say something odd, something useful even (yeah I know, that's expecting a lot).
The theme for Capricon this year is The University Of Fandom, so any sort of college radio commentary would be wonderful.
If you have something, want to do something, send them in mp3 format to ericcoleman at gmail dot com
If you have something that would make for good programming, send it to me. Things run as panels, in hour formats, but I can always find stuff to fill if it runs short (running long is a problem since I announce what is going on around the con every hour)
Now I gotta go upstairs and do the same for Devospice ... one bit of voice work coming up in just a little bit.

Radio Capricon
Jan. 11th, 2006 10:31 amWe are uncertain as to whether RC is going to be terribly hearable since there is no place to put the antenna this year. It can go out of the building, but only barely. We'll see what happens. If things aren't hearable, this might be the last year for RC. I hope not.
In the meantime. I am working on programming and playlists will be available at eric-coleman.com/rc.html once I start getting the discs made. I rarely spin live due to time constraints. I do want to welcome
khadagan to the RC family. She will be on the air at various points throughout the weekend (which will be one of the things keeping me alive) as well as programming a Celtic show that will be on at some point (I'm still working on the schedule).
As if that wasn't enough I will be playing at 1pm Friday in the filk room and noon on sunday in the Internet Cafe. The IC show should be pretty darn silly, since I should be pretty darn burned out by then.
I also expect to hang out in the Internet Cafe thursday night.
If all goes well we will be running a music mix from 6-11 thursday night (depends on if I remember everything I need to run the station and don't need to run out to buy things like power strips and such)
The music for the weekend should be amazing. Moonwulf, Dr. Mary Crowell (who I have never seen), Erica Neely, Tom Smith, Lukeski (in a duo show with Samuel T Clemmons), Kat Eggleston and a few more that I can't remember at the moment (EDIT - OH DUH, Wild Mercy).
I hope to have a few of these folks on the air.

Radio Capricon 2006
Nov. 25th, 2005 06:10 pmSo, a basic schedule is up. There is going to be a lot more music this year. This will probably get shuffled around some as I figure out who is running the station when. But it's almost there.
Looking for input
Aug. 23rd, 2005 12:14 pmSo, every year I run a one watt radio station at Capricon in Chicago. I try to run a lot of fannish stuff and a lot of general sorts of music that fannish folk might like. I'm looking for some ideas. This is year 5 or 6 (time is never my strong point) of my doing this and I want to expand my programming.
( Radio Capricon, 24 hours, just not in a row )

IT'S DRIVING ME SANE !!!
Jan. 8th, 2003 01:17 pmSo I'm working on the radio station programming for Capricon and it's just constant frustration. I should know better three years in to expect anyone to help out. People promise things ... then stop answering emails ... I'm scrambling to get all my music shows gathered (8 hours worth) and I am still short 4-5 hours of material folks said they would send me ... the only person who has presented any help is Alyse (goddess that she is) who is going to tell stories for two hours total (my first reaction was ARE YOU INSANE ... her answer is "of course" ... she knows what she is getting into ... one of the problems I had the first year ... most folks don't understand just how hard it is to fill an hour with just talk)
Fortunately I have a big library of radio shows now if I need to fill time ... but it's still making me nuts ...
