It sure felt like a train wreck. There is a recording. I'd like to hear it just to see if it sounded better out front. Between the stuff with the station and everything else, it's been a pretty bad con.

It wasn't a train wreck. Openings for a number of songs seemed tentative, but once y'all locked together, it sounded fine. (One thing that might help w/ that, which we discovered the hard way in Wild Mercy, is to set up tight instead of spreading out to use the whole stage. It's nice to have all that space, but it can lead to everybody feeling disconnected. We found that it was much easier to lock timing together if we were physically in closer proximity.)

We're unsure whether the recording was actually recording FOH or one of the monitor mixes or something in between. It seemed extremely guitar/drum heavy and vocal light when we listened to a bit, which makes it seem more like a monitor mix to me or possibly pre-fader front-of-house. Given all the equipment problems we were having, and the last-minute rewiring we had to do, I'm not surprised. (I don't know if you heard... the main bus on the Mackie decided to die right before things got started, so I ran the show on Aux 3. So the recording could be one of the monitor mixes, or Aux 3 pre-fader, or Aux 3 post-fader (which is what actually went to FOH). My point being... don't assume that the recording is what FOH sounded like 'cause from what I listened to of it, it's not.) The mix out front sounded good to me, and people seemed to be having fun.

And the Mackie is now sitting in my living room, soon to be dis-assembled so the gremlin can be evicted from it. While it's apart, I'll probably give it a good cleaning and install the rotapod. Hopefully, it'll be good as new in a couple of weeks....

And I concur. You guys were in no way a train wreck. I've been in train wrecks. Train wrecks are close personal friends of mine...

We'll see what the recording sounds like once we decompress from the con a bit. Given the way I was hotplugging wires to try to get sound to go anywhere that we needed it, God knows what I actually plugged into the recorder. (As Debbie observes...)
