Total Sci-Fi ran a poll, and this is what they got.
The top ten are
1: Blade Runner (1982)
2: 2001: A Space Odyssey (1968)
3: Star Wars (1977)
4: Alien (1979)
5: Metropolis (1927)
6: The Day The Earth Stood Still (1951)
7: The Terminator (1984)
8: Planet of the Apes (1968)
9: E.T. (1982)
10: Solaris (1972)
I've never seen Solaris, but I have seen (and own most of) the rest.
So, what doesn't belong there? And what should be there instead?

Date: 2009-08-05 10:24 pm (UTC)I'm screwing it all up.
Date: 2009-08-05 11:04 pm (UTC)I'm probably the only person I know who did not like Blade Runner. (Although I'm willing to give it another chance. It's been a few years since the last time I tried to sit through it.)
Could I add WALL-E? Because I'd add that. I would also add the most recent Star Track, because it's freakin' hot. If that one's not allowed, I'd recommend Khan and/or Nemesis. (I *like* this franchise, lemme alone already.) Is Cloverfield sci-fi? Or just straight up monster movie? Can I put JJ Abrams on this list? Or should he go on the other list with Ewan MacGregor?
Perhaps even the Matrix. I also really liked Gataca, but I'm also aware of my minority status in that camp.
I'd take Planet of the Apes off. I enjoyed these movies, and I even liked the Marky-Mark edition. (I even PREFER the Marky-Mark edition.) But it's not what I'd call a "great" movie.
Star Wars never struck me as a sci-fi, and the re-releases when I was in my 20s demonstrated to me that they're also not "great" movies. I love them. But yeah. The Godfather they are not.
Mostly, I'm just annoyed that there's nothing more recent on that list.
EDIT: Okay, I admit I didn't think to look at the full 100 when typing the above. Having done so now, I'd add Men in Black, and move Forbidden Planet up a few notches. I'm glad to see Starship Troopers on their list.
