More scam calls

This, according to the ID, from Bryan Russell in Miami. The person on the phone has the disconnect that sounds like they are from the other side of the world.

He says that my boss has called and wants to cancel our Online Yellow Pages listing and he needs to give me the confirmation number.

How this scam works, they give the person on the phone the confirmation number and then they use that and bill you 500 bucks. Looking at others online who have dealt with this group, if you refuse they threaten you with a 1200 dollar charge.

I messed with this one for awhile, and it ended up with him repeating everything I said. Kinda sad really, I expect better from such scammers.

Next time I think I may go completely psychotic on them. Tell them that the last time I got a call from this number, I woke up the next morning in a bathtub full of ice and my spleen was missing. Then ask the guy over and over what he has done with my spleen.

Be careful what you say to them. Apparently, they'll digitally edit the conversation and then use it to claim that you agreed to what they asked for.

I know, I am always very careful what I say to these guys. I've dealt with a lot of them.

how do they bill you with just a confirmation number that they provided?

I'm curious about that too. Although as far as I know, they can bill you all they like; if you haven't ordered/received the service you're being billed for, you can throw it in the recycling.

The company I work for regularly gets calls wanting to "confirm your Yellow Pages listing" and also "invoices" from the Yellow Pages. We do not and have NEVER had a Yellow Pages listing (we do business with other companies, not individuals, so such a listing would do us no good) but they will actually argue that point with me when they call. I trash the invoices and am short with the calls.

(One woman said in a scolding/threatening tone, "well if you don't provide this info, your Yellow Pages listing will be CANCELLED!" "As I've already told you we don't have one, that's just fine then.")

Intimidation and lies mostly. That works on an awful lot of people. You get a bill, then a threatening phone call from a "collector". And of course there are some folks who simply go "great, we can be on the internet yellow pages!"

As the saying goes, "there is a sucker born every minute". Nigerian bank scammers send out 100s if not 1000s of emails, they only have to hit once.
