"Si" is used in French, as well, as a way of saying "yes" to an inquiry, or a question where someone needs clarification, such as "The moon is made of green cheese, yes?" To which one would reply "Si!"

Latino food is better (although the French are better at dessert), and I vastly prefer the sound of musicality of Spanish over the nasal whine of French. And the weather is better in Mexico than in Canada. :)
