Billy Connolly had a routine about a flight he took. He was going on what he referred to as "one of those Buddy Holly killing planes" in Africa. The pilot walks over in shorts and flip flops and says "hi, I'm Reg".

Connolly then goes off on a rant about, first, pilots should wear long trousers, but also that they should not be named Reg. They should have a proper name like Nigel Carruthers.

Yesterday he was proved correct beyond any doubt. The pilot of the plane that went down yesterday was named Chesley B. Sullenberger III.

Indeed. Sully is my new hero. I can't wait till they're done debriefing him and he gets to speak. I loved his wife, she's too sweet.

Or maybe he's already been interviewed and I missed it. I actually turned off CNN to listen to music.

I can't wait for Larry King to interview him, that should be terrific. ;-)

I have that routine on VHS somewhere, and second to Carlin's, it's my #1 favorite comedian's riff on airlines and such.

And yes, major kudos to Sully. What a pilot.

I love Whoopie's opening set from that show, one of the best shaggy dog stories ever.

And this is my third, after Carlins' second. Shelley Berman's routine from the early 60s is still the greatest.
