I can only think of two
Nov. 13th, 2008 03:02 pmI tend to not like singing drummers. I can only think of two that I like. Levon Helm from The Band and Pete Rivera from Rare Earth
Can anyone think of any others? The first person to utter the "K" word gets made fun of in a very cruel and obscene manner ...

Date: 2008-11-13 09:32 pm (UTC)Ok, sorry ... Phil sang and played when Pete was in Genesis, but as a harmony singer (when he sang More Fool Me live, he came out front) . He has rarely done so since. Roger will sing lead occasionally, but rarely live. Don Henley is a good example though.

Date: 2008-11-14 01:11 am (UTC)Later versions of the band have a guitar player who sings lead, I'm not sure if it's the same guy though.

Date: 2008-11-13 09:50 pm (UTC)Since I mostly know groups from recordings, not concerts (or pictures), it's hard to visualize who plays what. I would imagine that for most rock bands, miking a drum and a vocal that close together would be tricky.

Date: 2008-11-13 09:53 pm (UTC)Ringo is a so-so example ... mostly cause I don't think of him as a singer really ...

Date: 2008-11-13 09:56 pm (UTC)Just had the pleasure of being at the Eagles concert night before last. That's a singing drummer if I ever saw one.
As someone who plays bodhran while singing (and no, I'm not claiming to be a drummer) I fully understand how hard that can be. My proudest moment so far as a musician in QG is being able to sing "Rocky Road to Dublin" and play the bodhran well and consistently throughout AND Bruce tacks an instrumental on after it!
