[Poll #1294709]

No, I don't know why ... but if you ask I may tell you ... so I wouldn't ... but that's just me

On a cold, wintry day, soup is restorative. Houseplants are a hazard that the cats might eat.

Ditto. Though I do love houseplants. I just don't manage to keep them around much.

While I suppose house plants could be turned into soup, it seems very unlikely that soup can be turned into houseplants.

If you water an ailing houseplant with chicken soup, will it get better?

i first read that as "house pants" and i like to periodically envision a world without pants.

Steve's comment is insightful - although I'd use extreme caution when turning house plants into soup as many of them are poisonous.

I had to think about it for a bit, but ultimately I felt I could live without house plants if push came to shove. Certainly if I had to choose one or the other for my desert island survival kit, it's no contest.

Ah, but house plants imply a house... which would be most useful for desert island survival.

Hmm - maybe. I guess I tend to see that label differently. A "house cat" is a domesticated feline even when it is homeless. I would make the same assumption about a "house plant" -- it's a "house plant" when it's at the store being advertised as such, and in the greenhouse when being grown as such. It's even, arguably, still a "house plant" when you plant it out in your yard. But it is sort of a weird nomenclature either way.
