USB is such a pain, we've actually gone over to Ethernet on our robots. It's easier to reconfigure and code for in a heterogeneous environment of microcontrollers, *NIX, and (*gak*) Windows...

Not being a programmer, I don't have the problem that grey_lensman has. Entirely the opposite direction, in fact. Firewire used to blow USB out of the water, until USB2.0 was released, at which point firewire fell to the wayside.

There's just too much support out there for USB to use firewire.
