December 21st is my 50th Birthday !!!

Yeah, I know, I appear to be a gibbering idiot of slightly lesser years.

I have been trying to think of what I want to do for this occasion and this, for what it is worth, is what I came up with.

Since my birthday is on a Sunday, I have decided to celebrate on the 20th. So ... here is the cunning plan that cannot fail. I'm going to Chicago.

At about 3:30 pm on Saturday December 20th I will be at the Lincoln Park Zoo ... dressed warmly I am sure. When I lived in Chicago I went there for my birthday several years running. The idea is to be there about dusk ... to listen to the wolves. There is no more sublimely lovely and unnerving experience. On one hand it is one of the most beautiful sounds in the world. On the other hand there is some primal thing in the back of your head that starts screaming !!! RUN !!! RUN YOU FOOL !!! RUN !!!

After that we will head south to [livejournal.com profile] chezdork in Joliet for food and music until we just can't take it anymore. So bring an instrument. If no one else brings instruments (and yes I know that there are quite a few in that house, I'm ignoring that for the moment) then I shall play more. Yeah you betcha, that should get them pouring in.

So ... please ... show up to one or the other or both. It would be a terrible thing if I am the only person there (guilt guilt guilt).

Presents are not necessary, but if you do feel the urge to go buy me something, I have a wish list on Amazon that includes 300+ a couple of items.

Mostly I want friends around me. Living in Iowa gets to me sometimes. I have a few friends here, but I really don't see them often enough due to traveling and the responsibilities inherent with the WSPA.

If you can read this, you are invited. Some folks I don't know as well, I'd like to get to know you better. Oh, and anyone who brings black balloons or anything like that will be thrown to the wolves. I have never been so alive as I am at this time. Come celebrate with me. 50 years ... it's been quite a ride.

Oh, [livejournal.com profile] chezdork is such a long drive from us. I don't think we can make it.

I didn't see the complete works of Sir Charles Spencer Chaplin on your list.

And I swear, you don't look a day over sixty-two.

I've always hated the whole "over the hill" thing. There's no such thing, and I've always found it insulting rather than funny.

I can make it. I can get to Chicago just fine, but I'd hope to get a ride to Joliet. I live in Shorewood, so I should be able to get a ride from my folks at the end of the evening.

Aw man, I wish we could! But we're clear down in Tulsa and that's also the day of our Yule party.

And you're NOT over the hill....I'm four years older than you are!

Depending on how the holiday schedule ends up at EFRC, there is a chance I could make it. Not a great likelihood, but at least a chance. The chance increases slightly if you remind me a couple of weeks ahead of time, when the schedule is known better but before I'm firmly committed to being there on the 21st.

Wolves howling isn't scary. Spine-tinglingly awesome, but not scary.

*hehehe*

But I donwanna run away...you have no idea how long it took me to get HERE. Long story, very long story and not even the soap opera writers would be willing to buy it. They'd think it was too unreal and farout even for them.

Am I missing something... you won't be *in* Shorewood at the time? Because I think it's really close to Joliet... I'm assuming you're coming from Elsewhere to Chicago?

Failing someone to drive you from the city to Joliet... you can easily get a train from Chicago to Joliet and we can pick you up at the train station. Email me (born2me at gmail dot com) if you want to work out more details.

If you're on the mailing list or in the Chez Dork community, you'll see reminders between now and then.

Oh, duh. *sigh* I could have figured that out, if not for the monster headache I've been toting around all day. :-) Yes, that can surely be managed... we can put all the seats up in the van to make sure there's room for extras.

You should record the wolves!!!

Even if I can make it to the party (not sure of finances & such yet), going to the zoo is a no-no for me with my allergies, especially if I might want to sing afterward. But you could post a recording on LJ for those who can't bet here in person!
