It's way harder (although not impossible) to put cheese, sour cream, chives and most importantly, BACON on mashed. The operative word being ON.

Hard choice, but eventually baked since you can do more with them.

Of course, Double baked is essentially a mashed potato in a baked potato.

I only learned to tolerate baked potatoes when I figured out that I could make them into mashed myself on my plate. But it's a bunch of work, so if decent mashed potatoes are available, I'll always choose them.

Proper mashed potatoes are peeled before boiling (potato peels are not food; mashed potatoes with bits of peel in them are an abomination, a sign of the depths of decadence our country has sunk to) and then mashed until smooth but still sticky enough to build Devil's Tower. Lots of sour cream, no butter, and no milk.

Guilty pleasure: I love the mashed potatoes at KFC. Even though they're artificial.

Far too often mashed has this substance known as "gravy" on it. That's good and sufficient reason to do baked (and especially twice-baked).
