Weird. I actually found myself listening to a Black Sabbath album this morning as well for the first time in like a year. I had "Sabbath Bloody Sabbath" stuck in my head.
One of the problems with this is "which version of each"? On the whole, I would say that most versions of DP run rings around most versions of BS. The so-called "classic" lineups*? I think it's a tossup.
*(Blackmore/Paice/Lord/Gillan/Glover vs. Iommi/Ward/Butler/Osbourne)
This made me think of the song Deep Purple, as covered by Donnie and Marie, and now it is stuck in my head!!!!!!
When the deep purple falls over sleepy garden walls And the stars begin to twinkle in the sky— In the mist of a memory you wander back to me Breathing my name with a sigh...
I've been listening to a lot of both the past couple of months, and mostly the Dio-era Sabbath. I know Ozzy is the revered frontman, but Dio kicks his ass.
And UFO trumps both Deep Purple and Black Sabbath.
UFO with Schenker ... maybe. Without, not a chance. Heaven And Hell is a great record, but the other two have Vinny (thump/twank) Appice struggling to keep up, and suck because of it. There are songs on Dehumanizer that you could do a better job playing drums on
Funny you should say that 'cause I just got a copy of Dehumanizer today for $2 at the pawn shop, along with Atom Heart Mother and a 2-disc Essential Hall & Oates.
