It's just a little under 6 months to my birthday, and it's one of THOSE birthdays. Yeah, I am 50 at the end of the year.

So what do you think I should do for my birthday? The last local party I threw was attended by 6 people, maybe 8. I'm thinking I may need to go out of town for this one.

So, gimme some ideas, be realistic ... if you can ...

Rejoice! You've survived this long! I threw a luau for my [now-ex] husband, for his Big [Hawaii] Five-O!

I don't know if this will help, but when I turned fifty I was in Muskogee, OK. One great advantage to this was the fact that prime rib is cheep as all get-out there. Also my sister and my bandmates and a couple of dozen wenches at the Oklahoma Renaissance Festival conspired to make it the greatest birthday EVAH!

On a perhaps more helpful note, you do seem to know a buncha folks in the Windy City area.

For my 50th, a big bunch of relatives, including siblings, came into town for a big lunchoen and other get-togethering. Well, it really wasn't for me, my Aunt Julie's funeral was that day. It was the last time I saw my dad. He died 13 days later.

Those events kinda keep me from getting this computer out of the box and set up.

Hope you have a better day. Maybe you need a little red corvette convertable.

I would suggest some kind of big party done as part of a con (so more people would come), but that incurs two questions: (1) at which con, and (2) do you really want to be tired to just your own party at the con. What cons are around your birthday?

On second thought

Oooh...perhaps Eric should be stopping by the moon rock exhibits, instead. i just read an article where moon rocks are like, WAAAAAY older than the earth.

It could bring back memories of his childhood!!

Everybody's telling me to go up to Chicago for my 40th next year. You would think people would love you enough to travel to wherever YOU want to be, but it turns out not (hardly anybody's willing to come down to Florida, even though Florida is way better than Chicago).

Of course my usual advice to anyone celebrating anything is to do it at Disney, but in the case of a birthday that close to Xmas, I would absolutely NOT recommend that. So I'd say resistance is futile - get someone in CHI to host it, and succumb to the inevitable.

Hey! I was there...wasn't I? I made it to a party at your house for something...but I can't remember what it was. ARGH!! Or was I sick...again...or was it the blizzard? things just sort of run together.

I vote find a con and have a 42nd birthday room party. So what if you're 50?!

Have too...I remembered! You had a "housewarming" or something so it can't have been in December because we sat outside in the yard...the WSPA weren't there and there were about 12 or so people. You & I walked out to my car and talked about my social life and your social life and I left early because I was on my way to something else that night also. So there! I just didn't make it to the birthday party...can't remember why.

Huh? We may have to discuss that offline. I'm foggy. I remember if it was in December, it was near the same time as an annual party here in town but I missed that one too. I was sick and even missed the NYE SACC. Plus there were some nastyish blizzardy things.

p.s. I should weep and cry and say my little pink feelings are wounded that you didn't remember I was there...but then your little pink feelings could be wounded too since I couldn't remember when I was there...

LOL

it is early & I am tired...so what am I going to do now? Go watch Atlantis!
