I lived in Highgate for a year back in the 70s. I was on a bus coming back from the Rainbow one night and sitting in the back of the bus in a parka with the hood pulled up, drunk out of his mind, was Dave.

There are stories....I was still in school for most of the seventies, trying to catch up with all the music that I'd just missed, dammit. Though I do remember the tube trip to the Rainbow: Finsbury Park, I recall.
Dave is/was notoriously belligerent, and Dave and Ray were reduced to fisticuffs in many a recording studio. That's brothers for you.

All daves have principles! Have you noticed we've never had a president named dave? Based on that rule, it's the Georges and Johns and Williams and Jameses who are suspect.

I see this as, "Ray and Dave Davies, brothers in the rock band called the Kinks." And I think Ray could have replaced Dave more easily than Dave could have replaced Ray. So Ray is the answer.
