I decided to take WSPA-3 to the magic show around the corner. I felt I had to see one train wreck when I was here.

Kirby VanBurch, drunk as a lord and botoxed out of his mind. I just can't take seriously a magician who can't take the time to get himself into the bag inside the box when he does Metamorphosis.

The funniest part of the evening was when they did a levitation with his wife. In this case it was done over fountains of water. From the angle I was at, it looked like there was steam coming up from her crotch ...

This is the sort of guy who Penn & Teller make fun of.

See, I didn't know who you were talking about, so I googled his name.

In March, 2005, Branson entertainer, illusionist and magician, Kirby VanBurch, plead guilty to the felony charge of unlawful use of a weapon and the misdemeanor charges of driving while intoxicated and third-degree assault on a law enforcement officer. In return for the guilty plead the prosecution agreed to recommend probation instead of jail time.

Dig a little deeper, it gets more fun. He's supposedly deeply closeted, and his wife is buddies with Jim Bakker ... like I said, I had to go see one train wreck ... and yeah I knew all this before I went to see him. I'm like that sometimes.

You are not the only one to note Kirby's problems on stage - although the magic community, other than some of the more "underground" publications, will rarely, if ever give a "brother performer" (as if many of the people publishing or writing have DONE many large shows, if ANY!) a bad review or mention anything even remotely negative.

Oh! For the days of Duke Stern and Clarke "The Senator" Crandall, neither of whom would fail to call out when they saw a bad performance and to say WHY it was bad (which put them both head and shoulders above 99% of most reviewers, in my professional opinion).
