But, it's like Conway and Korman. Both together became greater than the sum.

i'm voting solely on bud = flower bud, and Lou = the creepy guy in our mail room.

i'd rather have flower buds than creepy guys in the mail room. (although i'd rather have creepy guys in the mail room than my office, so we're okay there)

The straight man so rarely gets the recognition he deserves.

I agree on all points.* They only did one movie I particularly like, "The Time of Their Lives," which I used to routinely catch the end of (but never the beginning) on television in the pre-cable days.

Their tv show tended to include the least admirable aspects of their movies, their readio shows could be better, but not always.

I am still trying to find a recording (which is probably hidden in an episode of their radio show on my iPod) of a routine in which Lou is being paid for his work as a janitor and it comes down to something like 30 cents because of all the deductions Bud announces.

*I'm also not a big Laurel and Hardy film fan.

I love Abbott & Costello. Abbott was always so mean to Costello, physically slapping him around in the movies, that I can't help but feel sympathetic to Lou.

I always find myself identifying more with Bud, because I'm always trying to explain something to someone without a clue.

That's not really a fair question. The two together were greater than the sum of their parts, so if you take one without the other it won't really work. They started out trying to do solo comedy acts on vaudeville and failed, but when they teamed up something clicked and they took off.

Huge A&C fan here. Have been since I was a kid.
