Went very well. There was one tactical error about which we will have to do some apologizing but other than that (and that damn guitar player from Iowa screwing up) we tore through the set very well indeed.

Uplift
Hellraiser
Sunset Boulevard
Banned From Argo (yes we do Banned From Argo)
The Lady
This Island Earth
Roman Wall Blues
Rocket Launcher
Son of a Witch
Sweet Home O'Meara

We learned Hellraiser at soundcheck, and it went better than a couple of other songs that we have been doing since the first practice. I'll get a listen to the recording today to see if we can send it off for the Tom tribute disc.

For the last song Mike Whitaker and Jeff Bohnhoff joined us onstage for what turned out to be a really massive blues jam which included Sweet Home Chicago and our version of Mary O'Meara.

Thanks to everyone there, it was a blast.

That's funny - what I heard second to last was "Hair of the Dog" with one letter changed in one of the words. Does that qualify it for a re-title as a parody?

nope...

Well, the words I was able to make out were pretty similar-sounding to the original. Either that or my memory cells (the ones that actually survived the 70's) are less than perfect. Which would surprise WHOM around here?

Scar-headed, half-blooded,
I've been told about you.
Grade-grubber, blood traitor,
What they've been saying must be true.

Bridge:
Mud-blood lover,
Four-eyed caster,
Time's come to pay your dues.

Chorus:
Now you're messin' with a...
A son of a witch.
Now you're messin' with a son of a witch.
Now you're messin' with a...
A son of a witch.
Now you're messin' with a son of a witch.

Broom cheater, Red seeker,
You ain't gonna sucker me.
Fame-taker, born faker,
I ain't so blind I can't see.

Thank [livejournal.com profile] jerusha for that...she did the major part of the rewrite.

Had the construction traffic on the Kennedy not make the trip back to the con a half hour longer, we might had been able to watch the whole thing. My wife and I enjoyed the last twenty minutes of the show. I hope to catch a full Toyboat concert the next time.

I come to Toyboat as someone who doesn't have much of a rock background, and almost no knowledge of heavy metal beyond a general dislike. I am very much not your target audience. And I have to confess that I don't really like it when you take a song that I know well and like and put not only an arrangement that's heavier than I tend to like, but also a whole new tune.

But having said that, I did honestly really enjoy some of the songs you did. Hellraiser and Roman Wall Blues really kicked ass, and Uplift worked for me too.

It's not gonna be for everyone, but it's still a good thing; keep it up.

P.S. Eric on drums is truly a terrifying sight.
