I responded according to my whim for today. Another day might have garnered a different answer.

They're both really important influences both on the culture that matters to me and on my own development. But today, I can't watch TOS at all; it's too hokey. The last time I saw Episode IV (which, even though it's been despoiled "updated" is still more or less the same as the original movie) I still loved it. (It has been a while; I'm not a video guy.)

There are a very few TOS episodes I like, a few more that I can tolerate and the bulk of the series that causes me to scream at my television until one of my sweeties take the remote away from me and leads me upstairs to a quiet dark room for a lay down until I'm feeling better.

Star Trek. No question.

Every time I watch Star Wars I fall asleep. Of course, with Star Trek I can only watch TNG so go figure. Picard is my captain is my one true captain.

Tough call. I like them equally much but also there are some things about both that drive me bonkers.

Star Trek gets the edge - for all of the goofy newage everybody wuv each other drek in the new show, I'd rather live in the Federation than in the Empire. Or the New Republic that replaced the Empire.

'Cuz I bet the Republic isn't any better than Empire, they just have better PR.

tough one

They've both dug themselves into such a hole, I don't know which to pick anymore. 10 years ago, the choice was obvious.

Star Trek. With so much more of it, there are many more stories that I really enjoy. Yes, TOS gets hokey at times. I've been watching the remastered/replaced effects versions on TV each week (back on Channel 50 were they were for over 30 years in syndication and UPN). The new effects do help out some without getting in the way or changing the story. Picard's, Sisko's and Archer's journeys are the stories for their decade on the air.

When one can sit in the theature watching SW prequells and take out your typewritter and finish writting the script or write your review, you don't get that envelopment into that story. Like thinking why Jedi and/or medical droids and/or Amadela could not detect twins prior to birth.

Trek is the future (obviously an alternate one). Wars is a DEAD past.
