But this seems like a good thing to me.

Dear Friend,

I believe that ALL Americans, including gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender people, deserve the rights, responsibilities, and privileges that come with marriage. And right now, we have an unprecedented opportunity to make that dream a reality. Please, join me in adding your voice to a million voices raised in support of marriage for gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender couples at:

A lot of people forget that what we call marriage is a combination of two things: the religious recognition of the couple's union (marriage), and the legal rights and responcibilites granted by the state and federal goverments (legal union). It is the legal union part that everyone is really fighting for since it includes all the federal level stuff that is missing from civil unions and state-specific gay marriages. I know some people are also fighting for the religious recognition of their union, but what is really hurting people is the lack of legal union rights. Marriage has become a loaded word because it is linked to religion as well as government, and I personally don't like using it in this fight. Hopefully recognizing what is really being sought (legal union rights/responcibilities) will help calm people down, and see that their religious beliefs are not under attack.

And yes, this is a hot button topic for me because I know too many people effected by it.

Yup - no reason why everyone should not have the legal right to be as miserable as I was in my first marriage.

Here's to the great American Dream - a chicken in every pot and a beta marriage in everyone's past!

Some people might want to check the OT scriptual definitions of marriage.

Don't think my signature would count, not being an American. But you guys all know my opinion anyway.
