4th edition seems to work just fine. I don't see any major differences to the 2nd edition. There are some detail things that are changed, and some new cards, and variants of old cards. Generally though, it's great.

I remember playing Talisman MANY years ago, probably over 2 decades ago now (definately more than 15 years ago). So I guess that would be the first edition. I remember it only having 2 expansions at the time. Fun game, wish things had not changed to cause me to leave the group (and area) where I got introduced to it. If I wasn't already overflowing with games I never get the chance to play, I would consider investing in the new edition. I may still look into it after I spend some time decluttering and re-organizing the room I use to store my games and comics.

The 1st edition was all black and white. I have never seen one and I worked in game stores for about a decade around then. The version you are talking about was the 2nd edition.
