So ... [livejournal.com profile] filkertom posts about new DVDs most mondays ... what is coming out, what people intend to buy.

I didn't realize that these were out this week.

FINALLY ... and not in a box set

From Russia With Love ... the greatest of all the Bond films ... anyone who disagrees, I'll kindly have to ask you to step outside.

You Only Live Twice is out too

Once Dr No and Diamonds Are Forever come out (and I can't seem to find a date on that) ... I have all the Connery Bond films

So ... what is your favorite Bond film? And who do you think is the second best Bond? (cause we all know who is the best)

My favorite Bond: You Only Live Twice. Ninjas coming down the volcano! Can't beat that. Also sliding tubes in skyscrapers, a self-assembled personal helicopter, a dash o' sex (remember when you'd go see a Bond movie for a flash of tit? What happened to that?), gorgeous scenery.

Second favorite Bond: Oh, Woody Allen David Niven.

I don't particularly disagree with this analysis (though the flash was always there, and YOLT had lots of slow spy stuff), but as is often the case, the first example of the flash was the best. They tried to top it with special effects and faster pacing, but the series never topped the climax in the volcano.

Now that I think of it, the ending of YOLT is similar to the ending of this year's 24: Russia set to Push The Button until The Third Party Bad Thing is blown up. Bond is better than Bauer, but that's a different discussion.

Favorite Bond Movie? Live and Let Die

as for 2nd best bond (in my opinion is the best but oh well): Roger Moore, I know I am probably in the minority with that opinion

"From Russia With Love" is okay. "Goldfinger" is far better. As for the best Bond...Roger Moore. Dalton would have been great if they gave him some good scripts. I really think he could have been amazing.

Connery is okay. By "Thunderball" it's obvious he's bored with the part. By "Diamonds Are Forever" he looks like Grandpa Bond. (Which is funny because a few years later, Roger Moore took over the role and he looked years younger while in real life, he's older than Connery)

Favorite: "Live And Let Die" and parts of "You Only Live Twice". "Casino Royale" (2006) is really growing on me. "Goldfinger" is up there as well. Worst: "Octapussy" and "World Is Not Enough" (But I love the theme song...)

Speaking of that, Best Song: "On His Majesty's Sercret Service" and "Goldfinger". The ABSOLUTE WORST SONG, "Die Another Day" (Thanks Madonna, you suck!) and the never ending "License To Kill"...Honorable mention to Tina Turner's "Goldeneye" while I enjoy doing 'Thunderball' at Kareokee bars.

Each Bond has been good for the time they were Bond. Pierce and Lazenby...Nice ornaments to the Bond world.

Now...Daniel Craig...He's got some potential to take over.

Side note: "From Russia With Love" video game is fun. Conner did the voice on that one and it...shows...But "Goldeneye is and always will be the greatest Bond video game.

ZARDOZ!!!

As with 'You Only Live Twice' everything but Bond is what I like in that film. Great villian and plot. Connery knows he's going to win so he acts like it. It's his last film (At the time it was) and he knows it. (Kinda like Harrison Ford in 'Return Of The Jedi')

Robert Shaw is on of the greatest actors of our time.

Second best Bond? Sean Connery. No? How about Barry Nelson?

I rather like Lazenby and Dalton. Strongly detest Moore in the role. He was just too campy. Haven't seen Craig yet.

We caught part of HMSS on television over the weekend. Lazenby was better than the material, much like Dalton.

Sorry, the Google widget I had didn't mention them. :)

Goldfinger. Without question. "D'you expect me to talk?" "No, Mister Bond. I expect you to die."

When I was growing up, Roger Moore was Bond. Looking back, Moore had just taken over from Sean Connery when I saw my first Bond movie so I did not see Connery's version of Bond until years later. I was in the Navy when the next Bond took over, so the bulk of my Bond experience is Moore. It is like asking "who is your favoriate Dr Who". The answer is "the first one you saw".

Regarding Bond music, I *love* the song Thunderball. I don't remember enough about the movie to comment on it, but that theme song stuck with me.
