ericcolemanI am sitting down and working on songs every day. I am trying to get through my books (originals and covers) at least once a week, if not twice. That means playing songs that I haven' t played for a long time.
Some of the covers I, well, I'm not really into them anymore. Some of them that I wasn't I have dived deeply into.
It's really fun, and hard on my fingers (which is a good thing)

Date: 2006-07-26 10:20 pm (UTC)I'm having fun with my music assignments - I've got the words to one down, and part of the words to three of the others down. I really can't learn the fifth until I have an MP3 of it, but I do have a few pieces of it memorized already too.
Granted, all I'm having to learn is the vocal line. You've got it much harder, and I salute you.

There is at least one that I need to write new lyrics for, the old lyrics are a little clumsy and WAY too personal, and regard a woman that the wife is not fond of, but the music is still pretty good, and it's got a kicking chorus. We'll see

Date: 2006-07-26 10:28 pm (UTC)When I grow up I want to write songs. In another life (college) I wrote lyrics that friends set to music, and I did some parody... but I'd like to sit down and actually write some stuff. Probably would suck, but I'd like to try it again.

Date: 2006-07-26 11:21 pm (UTC)My practice has taken a different turn. I'm practicing drums a lot now. A LOT. I've decided that the Hootenany (twice a month) gives me a chance to be a drummer in a relaxed setting. But I need to get some chops back, bad. So it's me and iTunes and the drums now. Part of the trick is I have to learn to play very gently, since I'm playing with unamplified acoustic guitars and singers, but still get some power.
I should be working on my lap steel, too, but alas.
