I am sitting down and working on songs every day. I am trying to get through my books (originals and covers) at least once a week, if not twice. That means playing songs that I haven' t played for a long time.

Some of the covers I, well, I'm not really into them anymore. Some of them that I wasn't I have dived deeply into.

It's really fun, and hard on my fingers (which is a good thing)

Fun! I can't wait to hear you play again.

I'm having fun with my music assignments - I've got the words to one down, and part of the words to three of the others down. I really can't learn the fifth until I have an MP3 of it, but I do have a few pieces of it memorized already too.

Granted, all I'm having to learn is the vocal line. You've got it much harder, and I salute you.

I should have said "re-learn". Sorry. :-(

When I grow up I want to write songs. In another life (college) I wrote lyrics that friends set to music, and I did some parody... but I'd like to sit down and actually write some stuff. Probably would suck, but I'd like to try it again.

Oh, good for you!

My practice has taken a different turn. I'm practicing drums a lot now. A LOT. I've decided that the Hootenany (twice a month) gives me a chance to be a drummer in a relaxed setting. But I need to get some chops back, bad. So it's me and iTunes and the drums now. Part of the trick is I have to learn to play very gently, since I'm playing with unamplified acoustic guitars and singers, but still get some power.

I should be working on my lap steel, too, but alas.
