Date: 2006-04-10 04:39 am (UTC)Weller is just a lousy rip-off with a fancy hairdo.
"Village Green preservation society", "Ogden's nut gone flake", "the who sell out"- now those are UK mod albums worth shouting about!!!

Date: 2006-04-10 06:39 pm (UTC)Arthur is my particular favorite, but I would have to agree with the brilliance of VGPS. I did see them do the Preservation Show in London in 75 ... and had a very funny encounter with a very drunk Dave on a bus in north London one night. I was the 15 year old fanboy trying to tell him that he was one of my heroes, he was trying to figger out which one of me to talk to.
I do have to disagree with one point in a major way. Steve was by far the best singer in his band. There are, however, very few who have written as well as the late and much lamented Ronnie Lane.
And I really don't see that much of a comparision between Weller and Marriot ...

Date: 2006-04-09 11:40 pm (UTC)Now... if I can only dig up Tubby the Tuba (which I saw somewhere online a while back) and find the Mousketeer 78 that we played all the time ("Beauty is as beauty does, mark well what I do say").
When I was six, figuring out the gearing to get the 78 player to play 45s and 33 1/3rds was major geekery. It was just a little switch, but it seemed like high tech at the time.
