I don't count a lot of that as Irish ... Tull are more grounded in English forms ... we've discussed Steeleye Span above ... Pentangle and Renaissance are two big favorites ... but much more English (don't get me started about Annie Haslam, I tend to gibber and drool) ... I haven't heard enough Ralph McTell to make a comment ...

The Chieftans ... oh my yes ... Same for Boiled In Lead

I was thinking that I needed some Horslips ... I have none on CD and I really would like to listen to them today ...

As for many more I haven't heard of ... bring em on ... stump the band is a hard game to play in this LJ

Yeah, Jeeez. Just because it is folky doesn't make it Irish. I had someone trying to pass off Fairport and Nick Drake as Irish the other day. Come on!

Steeleye span & solo, Ralph McTell, Renaissance (both line ups), Pentangle, Tull - as Irish as the Kinks, as English as Thrupence.

Who does that leave? Oh yeah, Horslips, definately Irish.

The first 2 renaissance LPs are nice, and on one CD, luckily. I used to have a gorgeous pink island label ~export only~ copy of "illusions", but Katrina ate that one. That's another story.

The first 2 (as I was saying) are the ones with the Relfs, and come recommended. yeah, I prefer the Haslam period, but still.

On the other hand, I don't count Sinnead O'Connor as Irish Folk/Rock, largely due to the lack of folk.

Well hey, if you want a complete dump of my CD list you can go to my listing. Here are some of my faves from the Celtic F/R category so far unmentioned:

I have the first three Troubadours of British Folk collections, which I recommend.
A group called Bur came to the MN State Fair and they were good live, so I got their eponymous CD.
The Waterboys CD Room To Roam is good.
Ordering Luke Ski's CD from CD Baby last year, I also ordered De Cheadaoin which is apparently a HS summer camp ensemble. Recorded very poorly, the later tracks didn't work in my CD player and it's in my stack to try to fix on the computer. Not all that good, but lively. I think there was more from that order, but I haven't gotten to them yet.
I have the Planxty and Silly Wizard Best of collections, which have a few great songs. (I seem to be collecting versions of Black Jack Davy/Gypsy Davy.)
I bought the Irish Rover's Best of collection, Years May Come, Years May Go to have a version of Shel Silverstein's The Unicorn, but it also has Lily the Pink, a song I heard when I was a wee lad and didn't even associate with the Irish Rovers! A major bonus!
Okay, one last one: The Seven Nation's Rain and Thunder; somewhat more Scottish than Irish, but features Ullean pipes and all.

Yes, a strange song based on a true story. It's entirely possible that I heard their version as a kid; a really good reason I never associated them with The Irish Rovers.
