I just sat down and made up set lists for the shows this weekend.

I finished the first one (probably a little too long) and realized ... I have enough songs left over for another entire hour show. And this isn't digging too much into the backlog of songs, the things I wrote a long time ago that I really would rather not do (and that have mostly never been heard at a con anyway).

So I am doing two completely different sets this weekend, including some songs that I don't do much. Could be interesting.

Lucky you. :} I started looking into a gig slot for Navigation Without Numbers, and realized we don't have anywhere near an hour's worth of material yet. It's coming together quickly, but it'll still be a while before we have a full hour's worth of GOOD material, and we won't play anything we can't play well. We could probably do a half-hour set now.

I've been at this pretty steadily for awhile now ...

I probably have another half hour of older songs, or stuff that hasn't quite come together. And then an hour of covers, although the usual deal applies, anyone who can tell me who did one of my cover songs originally gets a winky button (or a free CD)

Part of our problem is that we're doing mostly Jamie's originals, and she's nothing if not concise. That means songs that clock in at 2-3 minutes. And I'm not gonna noodle away at a "solo" for 16 bars (even if she'd let me) just to fill space.

On the other hand, the amount of electric guitar fill stuff I'm doing now has been really interesting. I haven't been "lead guitar" in a band in many years. I really haven't played electric to speak of for two years now, so I'm re-aquiring a whole set of abandoned chops. We just spent the evening working on one of the tunes we're recording. My parts are all fast, distorted, rock and roll lead guitar. I'm having fun. :}
