I haven't heard anyone refer to a human as a gerbil since I was in college, and this girl who was part of the group I associated with was called a gerbil because, somehow, she seemed like a gerbil. She was really cute, and nice, and not ditzy.

Reminds me- in more than one way, you'll see- of the girl in my senior class who once asked "if you put a hamster in the freezer will it hibernate?" And she was in the gifted program....
