Oddly enough ... I have had a couple of folks give me the look because I get in there and play my original songs, of which only one is really filk. But I have been welcomed by nearly everyone.
Strangely enough, from the folks I have talked to and the folks I have seen while you perform ... you have been welcomed by nearly everyone as well.
Well Eric, if you're puzzled, just watch the reactions of some of the people at ConFusion when I perform, assuming Bill Putt can use his connection to the con chair to override the veto from the filk people, so I actually can perform there. Its those people who are specifically trying to bar me from performing at conventions that are why I say things like that.
I don't know what filk people are saying you can't perform there, but I'll defend your right to join any filk circle and help smack anyone who says you should be excluded. Rap is not my style, and I'm so out of touch with pop culture that I don't even own a TV so I don't get a lot of your references, and I still love your stuff. If the problem is that they won't give you a concert or perks like a comped membership, I'll leave that up to the con until I see that they are giving those things to people who deserve them less than you do, but if you're being told you're not welcome in open filk, whoever is telling you that needs to have their head forcibly removed from their ass.
Wear a santa hat and coat, stand up, say "Bloody hell, this fucking filk circle is a bunch a' rubbish, innit?" drop your pants, and do your best impression of the Sex Pistols doing "It's Beginnining To Look a Lot Like Christmas."
