So, OVFF is a little over a week away and ...

I'M NOT NERVOUS AT ALL

So, being the obsessive sort (someone said I was obsessive once and it was all I thought about for weeks) I am trying to get things worked out what I should bring.

Guitars ... I am bringing one. ONE do you hear me ... one ...

So ... the contestants are

The Martin

Sounds amazing, looks cool ... it's a friggin Martin after all. But I told myself that I wouldn't make him travel too much. It is definitely the nicer of my two main guitars and by far sounds the best unplugged (and I am not doing a plugged set, just a short set at the music circle ... oh ... how long do I need to plan on [livejournal.com profile] braider ??? Not that I am obsessive or anything).

The Takamine

There is a comfort level here. I've played him at every show this year. He's easy to play, has the built in tuner and has the cut away for when I play things like Hides where I have to go way up the neck.

So ... opinions ???

Whichever one makes you happy. Whole point is to have fun.

Looking forward to meeting you there.

I would lean toward the Takamine. Many reasons...

1. It's your touring guitar. You've used it more on stage. There's an instinctive thing here.
2. The Tuner. :)
3. Sound may not be as good, but is it *bad*? :)

Just my .02... :)

I would agree for the same reasons. Take the Tak.

So sweetie, how many more hours until she arrives?

Take the Takamine. If he makes you happy, you'll both sound better.

You're just opening the open filk. This involves you bullying anyone standing around into helping you pull the chairs into a biiiig circle, then playing for about 15 minutes. You then watch and make sure no one filk hogs for the next hour, and that the shy folks get a chance to sing.

Darn it, didn't I ever give you a copy of that picture? Tell me again where to email it and how big a file you want. Or I can burn it on a CD if you want the full image and don't want that much in an email attachment.

I won't give you the whole tirade about why bardic circles are bad bad bad, but if you actually want to let the shy people have a chance to sing, don't let people who aren't singing have turns to pick songs. Picks from the audience either go specificially to well-known filkers, or they're something that lots of people know and they get jumped on by the most aggressive person who knows them. The pick option makes the people who can do the requests involuntary filkhogs.

I thought we'd already worked out that it was cool, but she will be at OVFF if you want to ask her.

Every, and I mean, Every, road guitarist I know carries a Tak. Why? It boils down to this.

They'd cry if they killed thier Martin/Gibson/Taylor.

Bring the Martin, and here's why... it's purely selfish for me.

See, i'm getting my nice Running Dog guitar next year, and i know i'm going to be terrified to bring it to cons, gigs, and filking because it's my preciousssss. If you're brave enough to bring your Martin out in public, it'll be easier for me to bring my Running Dog. :}

Takamine vs. Martin

Well, I assume the Takamine is the one you used at ICon (well, the Clarion, don't know if you were there for ICon specifically)
Personally, I'd say takamine. It sounded real nice in the lobby of the Clarion, that and by having a built in tuner you can minimize total stuff carried. That, and sometimes comfort level is better then quality.
Regardless, best of luck to you, and I hope things go smoothly

Boo!
