Oct. 20th, 2004 01:21 pmSo, OVFF is a little over a week away and ...
I'M NOT NERVOUS AT ALL
So, being the obsessive sort (someone said I was obsessive once and it was all I thought about for weeks) I am trying to get things worked out what I should bring.
Guitars ... I am bringing one. ONE do you hear me ... one ...
So ... the contestants are
The Martin
Sounds amazing, looks cool ... it's a friggin Martin after all. But I told myself that I wouldn't make him travel too much. It is definitely the nicer of my two main guitars and by far sounds the best unplugged (and I am not doing a plugged set, just a short set at the music circle ... oh ... how long do I need to plan on
braider ??? Not that I am obsessive or anything).
The Takamine
There is a comfort level here. I've played him at every show this year. He's easy to play, has the built in tuner and has the cut away for when I play things like Hides where I have to go way up the neck.
So ... opinions ???

Date: 2004-10-20 11:39 am (UTC)1. It's your touring guitar. You've used it more on stage. There's an instinctive thing here.
2. The Tuner. :)
3. Sound may not be as good, but is it *bad*? :)
Just my .02... :)

Date: 2004-10-20 01:22 pm (UTC)I dunno about the bullying thing ... I'm kinda reserved ... shy even
I'm figgering that I will make it PP or P for the time I am in charge ... and make them go <---- that way ... since to the left is always good ... chaos circles can get ugly fast ... and being the Man With No Follower (insert Morricone music here) that dosn't work for me anyway ... and back when I was the shy one (ummm ... last year ... yeah) I had a bad encounter with a filk hog ... I want to hear everyone play ...
I have songs for the protest songs theme circle ready ... in my usual ... ahem ... shy manner ...
Maybe I can get the look from Erica Neely if she is there ... and other folks too ... (I still want a scan of that)

Date: 2004-10-20 02:07 pm (UTC)I won't give you the whole tirade about why bardic circles are bad bad bad, but if you actually want to let the shy people have a chance to sing, don't let people who aren't singing have turns to pick songs. Picks from the audience either go specificially to well-known filkers, or they're something that lots of people know and they get jumped on by the most aggressive person who knows them. The pick option makes the people who can do the requests involuntary filkhogs.

Date: 2004-10-20 02:48 pm (UTC)I need to get in contact with her, I really want that photo on my shows page with a caption of something like "An audience member with a typical reaction to one of Eric's tender ballads"
and yeah, I thought about the whole pick thing a week or so ago and it went out of my head. Thanks for bringing it up. I am definitely re-thinking that ... again ...

Date: 2004-10-20 03:03 pm (UTC)See, i'm getting my nice Running Dog guitar next year, and i know i'm going to be terrified to bring it to cons, gigs, and filking because it's my preciousssss. If you're brave enough to bring your Martin out in public, it'll be easier for me to bring my Running Dog. :}
Takamine vs. Martin
Date: 2004-10-20 08:26 pm (UTC)Personally, I'd say takamine. It sounded real nice in the lobby of the Clarion, that and by having a built in tuner you can minimize total stuff carried. That, and sometimes comfort level is better then quality.
Regardless, best of luck to you, and I hope things go smoothly
