The sunday show was fine, even though it was up against closing ceremonies ... I think this is what I played, but I did kind of call songs up as I went. S. Travis Clemmons heckled, but in the end lost (not that he tried that hard)

Only Coffee House In Town
Home Again
Pine City
Oh Shannon
Trophy Wife
Bang My Bald Spot
Color Of Your Eyes
Woman I Want
How Can I Miss You?
Nice Guys
J’S Wild Appalachian Stomp
WYSIWYG
Perfect Moments
Hides

Then I got back into town and called up Boheme and went and played ...

Standards
Hey Dad
How Can I Miss You?
Nice Guys

A guy I had talked to earlier bugged me about playing bluegrass, so I ripped through How Can I Miss You. It made for a good evening ... and a good end to the weekend.
ericcoleman: (Default)
Don't Go Home
Woman I Want
Crank Generation
WYSIWYG
Trophy Wife

It was a pretty good, albiet spacy, set. I was ready to be done after WYSIWYG, but Pete, realizing that I was out of it, told me to do another song. He does that when I'm out of it.

Ok, I got the promo that the good [livejournal.com profile] doctorpinkerton sent.

This is some of the funniest stuff I have heard in years. I keep finding myself putting Touch The Hand into repeat, just to bother the folks here at work. Go check out The Consortium Of Genius

Man I want to see these guys play ...

Tonight

Hand Above The Water
Need
How Can I Miss You?

I haven't done Need lately. It still needs some work, but it's getting there. I hadnt done Hand Above The Water in awhile. It went very well. The rest was the usual.

I stayed out late cause the Turkish guys were playing. They had a female singer with them this time and she added a lot. The harmonies were great. It was well worth staying up late for.

Now I crash.

Night all

Standards - I'm getting better at this one. It was a little too fast.
Hey Dad - A request, not real good for the energy level of the set, but fun
How Can I Miss You? - the acoustic speed metal version. MAN I played this one fast tonight. It worked though

Sold a CD, which is always a good thing. I really need to get the next CD done.

There was a guy there who played in this very cool tuning (CACGBC I think) who wants to record ... and may do it in my studio (we'll see, I can't get my own stuff done so far)

It was a good night, got to talk with Derrick Tie for a bit. It's nice to talk to another old fart for awhile.

I have been playing the mandolin with the squirrel every day. Things are moving along nicely.

I went the open jam today. I had a hard time since I was near the sound system they use so we can all hear the vocalists. I need to move to the other side of the circle the next time. I only led on one song. Only Coffee House In Town. I actually got everyone playing along. Other than that I just played guitar when my ears weren't screaming.

At Boheme, it was a ok set. I pushed myself a little too hard.

Only Coffee House In Town - It seems to be the usual opener now.
Standards - great version, nice and relaxed
Nice Guys - Ok, if a little unfocused
How Can I Miss You? - my working on low key stuff lately showed, it was a bit of a mess, but not as much of a mess as
Crank Generation - where I fell apart totally, much to the delight of the sunday boys ... it was fun ...

So it was a good night, and a pretty good weekend.

I'm tired now ... night
ericcoleman: (Default)
I just got offstage.

The One I Chased Away - I havent done this live in ages, went very well
Color Of Your Eyes - part one of the trilogy that includes the above, the third song is still not done
The Woman I Want - Nice, if a little detached
Only Coffee House In Town - relaxed
Nice Guys - went well

time to go home and go to bed now, night all

now if only my web service at home will work, I can't get online worth anything at home at the moment.

Three songs, since there weren't many performers.

Bang My Bald Spot - The best version of the patter ever.
Trophy Wife - Nice, there was this very cute girl right down front, and the end of the 2nd chorus hurt her, I mean really hurt her. In a good way though.
Crank Generation - Nice and relaxed again. It's back in the set again after a long retirement. Probably not for cons, since it's pretty darn brutal, but I think I need to do this more often.

Oddly enough I worked on serious stuff this afternoon. Worked on Jordan Cochrane and The One I Chased Away (it needs to get back in the set as well, I forgot how much I like that song)

I went to the record show this morning. Nice, saw a few folks I don't see often, showed off the new comps. Only bought one CD, which was my limit.

After a quick stop at a friends to return some CDs I went to the old time jam. Two solid hours of guitar playing. I need to do this more often. My fingers are screaming, but in a good way.

Came home and crashed out for awhile, then went to Boheme.

It was a very low key night and I responded with a very low key set.

Only Coffee House In Town (slow motion mix)
Hand Above The Water
Hides (the really slow motion mix)

It was a nice, quiet, pleasant way to end the weekend. Got a great response after Hides.

I got cut short, but for good reason.

The open mike was running late, and the two guys before me and the guy after me were all new ... and very very good.

I am amazed at the quality of the performers at Boheme. It is so rare that someone just out and out sucks at the open mike (and it's usually me)

That said, I rushed through everything, but it was fun. I feel good for the first time in a few days, so that explains the rush.

Standards
Bang My Bald Spot
How Can I Miss You?

Minimal patter, which is another reason Pete cut me short I think. I am still a little out of it. A good end to the weekend.

My friend Tera is playing next week, I can't wait.

Oh, and I will be doing a show in Ames middle of January sometime at the tattoo parlor, most info when I get it.

So I am back into the pain meds and water scene. This hit me about a half hour before I was going to perform at the standup comedy open mike.

Fun

I think I played the songs well, but I really have no idea what I said during the set, except to interfere with the MC (which is expected)

I did Trophy Wife and Low Self Esteem (in honor of getting the benefit discs)

I headed home right after my set.

So what ferocious pains are you all suffering today?
ericcoleman: (Default)
Crank Generation
Only Coffee House In Town
Trophy Wife
Nice Guys
How Can I Miss You?
WYSIWYG

Everything ran very well, very smooth, no problems with my hands, even starting with a burner like Crank Generation. Two of the sunday boys spurred me on, the rest of the audience looked on slightly appalled (they liked it though).

I was going to be done after How Can I Miss You?, but Pete made me do one more. WYSIWYG was a little terse, but fun. The rest of the set went great.

I needed that

It was a very introverted set tonight. Life's generally been rough lately ... so it was a very inside set

Golden Age Of Silicon - a very rickity version, as I have not done it in front of an audience in months. Even still I pulled the energy way back.

Perfect Moments - with the seldom heard cynical miserable 4th verse. I'm still uncertain as to whether to keep it in or not. It changes the mood of the song drastically.

Hides - for a moment ... then into

Roman Wall Blues - as I suspected from doing it at Windy last weekend ... the song is now in my head ... then back into

Hides - for a pretty intense slashing version. I didnt quite make all the triplets

Kept the audience quiet ... a fun night

Tired

Only Coffee House In Town (the exhausted can't remember the chords version)
Almost Beautiful (the string slippage version)
Trophy Wife (the someone requested something dirty version)
Nice Guys (see almost beautiful)

The new bridge pegs are not working, they're going soon. I never go out of tune onstage, and I did twice in a 4 song set tonight.
ericcoleman: (Default)
How Can I Miss You?
Trophy Wife (requested)
Only Coffee House In Town (more and more relaxed)
Nice Guys (the best so far)
Bang My Bald Spot (for the big finish)

Ok, it was a music weekend.

We went north to visit some relatives at their bowling alley.

One of the cousins is a musician, writes some songs, and is an excellent singer.

In the bar they have karaoke, and he will play some songs throughout the night. Last night I joined him and did two short sets. Now let me see if I remember what I played. Mostly the usual funny stuff.

Sitting around playing I did

Only Coffee House In Town
How Can I Miss You?

When we got set up to play through the system I played.

Standards
Hey Dad !!!
Color Of Your Eyes

Then later

Low Self Esteem
Bang My Bald Spot
and something else, I can't think of what at the moment

And tonight at Boheme I did mostly newer stuff. Not too well, but the songs are moving along

Only Coffee House In Town (nice with a few guitar bobbles)
Pine City Motel Blues (The middle section is still a mess, the rest went ok, but just ok)
Low Self Esteem (just cause I mentioned the benefit disc)
Nice Guys (messed up the final part, but it was ok)

There were two new guys this weekend. A guitar player and a guy with an old Micro-Moog.

They did some very cool, very tuneful stuff with great use of the synth. But more on them in the next post. Suffice it to say that they were the best thing I have seen there in some time. (and there has been a lot of great music lately)

A weird night.

Standards (pretty good)
Hey Dad (see above)
Color Of Your Eyes (the speedy power pop version)
Bang My Bald Spot (too fast, then faster, then even faster ... it made me laugh)
Low Self Esteem

Next weekend I have work on newer stuff, have some new lyrics, let's see if I get some music written for them
ericcoleman: (Default)
Boheme was fun tonight. I did three songs..

I Want To Kill Everybody - (Ed Haynes) - A pretty good version.
Roman Wall Blues (Auden/Harvey) - A great version, looser than usual, and it drifted right into
Hides - (some geek in Iowa) - A great version, even if I didnt manage the triplets in the instrumental sections.

And the Turkish guys were back again. Brilliant stuff.

A great night. I'm going to bed now.

kinda slow

That was my set tonight. I was working with the heavier picks again, and that slowed down my songs. For the best I think. It was a kind of unfocused set though.

Low Self Esteem
Trophy Wife
How Can I Miss You?
Standards

I need to work on my hands more the next week and a half. I am not up to doing a full length show right now.
ericcoleman: (Default)
I took the martin out tonight. It was fun playing it out after a couple of years playing the Tak live.

Standards - good pace ... sped up a little, but it worked
Bang My Bald Spot - I premiered the new 4 verse version. No I didnt write a 4th verse, I just repeated the middle verse.
Almost Beautiful - A really nice version of it.
Woman I Want - lost the audience totally with this, still, played it well.

A nice night.

I think I am going back to the heavier pick, played with one the whole set and it was very comfy.
