Date: 2008-10-08 04:39 pm (UTC)But for guitarists....it's gotta be Bonham: it's the space, the groove, and the weight.
The best synthesis of both schools of drumming during the period before Moon's death (and additionally the school of drumming that dealt with head too, apart from just heart and gonads) of course was Bruford: though he got better technically, his invention on the album 'Red' (1974) still astonishes. I think mad percussionist Jamie Muir had something to do with it.
Moon was more fun to drink with, I gather. Bonham, like Mike Tyson has, had this peculiar ability to moke one wish oneself always on the other side of the planet from, if you'll excuse me ending with a preposition. So if it's for a drink, Moon: but in the studio, with proper shackles and restraints (and a veterinarian on hand) it's Bonham every time.
