If you have seen me perform, you know that there are a lot of stories that go with a lot of the songs. Many of these do bear some resemblance to the truth. The story that goes with Don't Go Home, wherein every place I have lived has been torn down, is actually fairly true. I got into a mood this afternoon and looked up a place that I used to live, just to see if it is still there. It is

You lived in Highgate.
Jammy bugger. Very nice area. I couldn't afford a shoebox in Highgate. George Michael used to have his studio on Highgate High street.
When did you move back to the home of the free?

Highgate...cool...Mom lived in London for a year as a kid in the '50s, right around the corner from Kew Gardens.

This was when I was a teenager ... 74-75. That end of Highgate wasn't quite as ... well ... Highgate back then. And Crouch End, where I spent a lot of my time, my g/f lived down there, wasn't gentrified the way I hear it is now.
