Horror Of Dracula
Hammer Horror's finest moment as far as I am concerned. There has never been a better Dracula than Christopher Lee.

Alien
Ok, you may say that it is a science fiction film, that it is a monster film. I say that it is the best haunted house film ever, just updated into the space age.

Army Of Darkness
Choosing one of the Evil Dead movies was rough. They are all very good for wildly different reasons. This one has a special place in my heart though. I love displaced earthman fiction. This is one of the best of those sorts of films. And it's deeply twisted and funny.

The Thing - 1982
A masterpiece of tension with the greatest final moment in a film ever.

I would argue Aliens being a horror film. I think there is no doubt that Alien is, but Aliens is more of an action film. I like it more that I do Alien, but it's missing something to make it onto a list like this for me.

Oh, sure, but I think "unintentionally horrifying" deserves points, just as "unintentionally funny" does.

I dunno, I saw Alien in the theater and then on a VCR, and I think that a lot of the suspense is exacerbated by the subsonics in the soundtrack. On a tinny TV, I just didn't feel the fear; in the theater, I jumped every time, and on repeat viewings too. I much prefer something like Poltergeist, or The Exorcist.

I think you're right that it's a haunted house film, though. The haunting just happens to be by something other than ectoplasm.

Army of Darkness was brill.
