Part of our problem is that we're doing mostly Jamie's originals, and she's nothing if not concise. That means songs that clock in at 2-3 minutes. And I'm not gonna noodle away at a "solo" for 16 bars (even if she'd let me) just to fill space.
On the other hand, the amount of electric guitar fill stuff I'm doing now has been really interesting. I haven't been "lead guitar" in a band in many years. I really haven't played electric to speak of for two years now, so I'm re-aquiring a whole set of abandoned chops. We just spent the evening working on one of the tunes we're recording. My parts are all fast, distorted, rock and roll lead guitar. I'm having fun. :}
