Thank you to everyone who voted before, but I gotta ask you again. Most of the votes leaned toward the funny songs ... but ...
The hardest part of what I do is choosing the serious songs. Since I play mostly at cons where I am known for my funny stuff, it becomes even harder. In my hour con set I usually put two maybe three serious songs, but if I am going to go out and play 2 sets a night, I need to draw more from the serious stuff. It's difficult, my serious songs tend to be pretty bluntly honest about things in my life (although not always totally autobiographical) and it's hard to get the distance on them to decide which to do. I hadn't performed The One I Chased Away in nearly a year, mostly because I have spent a lot of time recently with the person that song is about and it made it very hard to sing (weirdly enough, I do Color Of Your Eyes a lot and that is also about her, but it has a different attitude)
I do need opinions (perhaps the opinion that is given is that I should stick with the funny stuff, but I can't do that right now, maybe in a year or two).
I'm going for coffee house gigs and such so I don't want to go totally with the funny material (for several reasons, but mostly I can't fill an evening with just funny material or serious material, I'm sitting at about one 50 minute set of each at the moment). I want to go for a couple local shows a month and maybe a road trip once a month to Minneapolis or Chicago. I want to be playing more. I need to be playing more.
So I've split up the songs, funny/satirical vs serious.
I think that Color Of Your Eyes is probably a lock since I consider it the best song I have written (but oddly enough, not my favorite, that would be Hides), but the rest I can't decide on. So ... please help me ...
So, please vote for two serious songs and one funny song.
Comments are always welcome too.
[Poll #637489]
Ok, I think I have this worded so I don't sound like an ungrateful creep (I am a very grateful creep). The poll did tell me some very good things, but not necessarily what I needed. So please vote again
