Congratulations to Harold Pinter for the Nobel Prize for Literature.

And the winner of this years "I Like My Cigar But I Take It Out Once In Awhile" award goes to the very aptly named Jim Bob Duggar

Yay Pinter!

Interestingly, I learned a lot about theatre from seeing two different production of Pinter's "The Homecoming". The first was the BBC film version, which was totally dominated by an AMAZING actress playing Ruth (I don't think I've seen her in anything else), wrapping all the men around her little finger. The second production was a live stage version. The actress playing Ruth just wasn't dominant enough to pull off the role that way. The actor playing the father, on the other hand, was this HUGE guy (6'3" or so, 300 pounds) who had played King Lear and had a tremendous, booming voice. Suddenly, the play was about the FATHER, not Ruth, and Ruth's decision to stay in the end was her submission to him, not trading out her husband for new worshippers.

No one has any idea what I'm talking about.

But at any rate, I learned a lot about theatre, and about the subtlety of Pinter's dialogue. Same words, two completely different meanings.
