Cheshire Moon
Sep. 11th, 2022 08:14 pm12 years ago Lizzie and I were at Strowlers in St Louis. She had hit me with the rather stunning realization that she did, indeed, find me as attractive as I found her. It was our first weekend together alone.
We did manage to see some of the music, but more importantly, we started working on our music. We had learned a couple of covers together earlier in the year, Lizzie brought another one with her for us to learn.
Then I played her a piece of music that I had written. This kind of slinky, echoey, moody sort of piece.
"Keep playing that."
So I did.
"Give me some quiet for a few minutes."
So I did.
"Ok, play it again."
She sang some words.
"Now we need a chorus".
So I rearranged the chords from the verse into a chorus and that was Widow's Garden. The piece of new music that I most wanted to get out there now had words.
We continue to write, we're over 150 songs now. It's been the most creative time of my life. Then the world went askew. I went into isolation for 14 months. We did so many online shows I went into a deep depression and quit playing guitar except when absolutely necessary. I started having problems walking. Entropy is no fun.
And now we are coming back from that. We started rehearsing for Worldcon, and the spark lit up again. One night we finished a song, and both of us had huge smiles. It was time to be Cheshire Moon again.
We're trying to get Callenwood re-written so we can finally record it ... soon. We're holding off on the Arcana project until that is done. But we will be doing songs from both live.
We will be at ICON in Cedar Rapids, IA October 14-16, doing a 2 set show Friday night. We will be at Chambanacon Thanksgiving weekend, November 25-27 in Normal IL. The only other definite is Demicon next May 5-7. They asked us to be GOHs. That from your home con is, well, amazing.
We've been really quiet, but we are getting back out there. We're starting to look into shows for next year. WorldCon took a lot of our con budget, so we may not be able to get to a lot of cons next year, but we are going to try.
It's been a rough time, and we are going to get back out there and make some magic.
